July 31/87 Black Friday tornado in Edmonton.  That sure is an event indelibly burned in my memory.

I am investigating with an old friend from Hearts Of Gold, now in Quito, to see if it is possible to arrange for a  Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccination there.  That would, of course, be the best and cheapest route for me to go.

Last night's frustrating searches for reasonable flights to a mini-vacation in Cartagena or Santa Marta wore me out mentally. The usually reliable Kayak seems to have most flights through a booking outfit called Kiwi.  When you accept an economy flight for two, then they want to charge for a carry-on, charge to sit together, charge for seating, charge for cancellation or changes, on and on,.... I was so frustrated that I have almost given up on the idea.  I have a credit with Copa and Cheap-O-Air (everything but cheap now..) of $406.23 USD that I am supposed to use up by the end of the year.  Because of my problems to get to Canada, I don't know if that is extendable or not.

At 4:25 Aunt Nativa jumped in with us to go to a memorial mass for the other Aunt Nativa (buried here) past Campo Alegre to El Salto.  There we met Cristina's half-sisters (Dad got around a lot then strangely disappeared) Beatriz and Patricia who I had never met.

There was this cute country church and dirty plastic chairs so I opted to stand for a while.  The service started at 4:50 and at sermon time I retired to the car.  At 5:35pm I spot the fashionably late Adiela and Ana Julia making their way into the church.  Adiela pointed out that Miguel was at a roadside cafe so I joined him.  The proprietors seemed fascinated that I was from Canada.

Finally the service ended and the family came out to mingle.  There was a family parked near me, relatives obviously, that actually live in Brampton, Ontario!  They have been there for 20 years and still hesitate to speak much English.  Several relatives want copies of some of my photos.

It was dark by the time we left so I was happy to follow Miguel all the way to Andalucia because those darn speed bumps are so hard to see.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
