Monday October 31, 2022

The sky was dark and the streets were wet for our Sunday morning walk.

Cristina said that Carlos couldn't reach his helper to work free at Zoonosis, so could I help??  So I dressed for the sun, and in my new rubber boots (which are horrible for driving) and I went, only to be stopped at the highway by police, saying I should wait 40 minutes...  Apparently, I found out later, this was for a bicycle race, not an accident.  55 minutes later I arrived at Zoonosis only to see that the helper was there, and I was not needed.  So I only wasted a lot of time and gasoline but at least did not wrench any muscles.

So, Sunday I worked on my photos while Cristina had little Sofia join her for the afternoon and evening.

Today, Orion was again high above lighting our morning walk.  I also took a couple of shots with my phone of the cow eating garbage at the far end of our walk.  She also had been obviously busy a block earlier as well at the Hamburgo garbage can, garbage everywhere...  I wonder if it bothers her to eat beef scraps...??

Oct 31 and the schools are bustling with costumed children.  Happy Hallowe'en everyone!

This was on our walk yesterday

I came across this picture below when working on photos yesterday and it invoked so many good memories of working with our wonderful Dad on this farm, and many family summer Sunday drives there to watch the crops grow and ripen..

Our old farm looks much the same as 55 years ago.

Cristina got a call that the fellow that had adopted Nino a while back was out of work and could not afford to feed, or care for, the little guy.  He also claimed that Nino was sick and he could not afford a vet, so we went to re-rescue the pup.  I give the guy credit for contacting us and not throwing the puppy on the street...

I vaguely remembered where that was, and Google maps wanted to, once again, send me down the hated Transversal 12 at lunchtime....  I am sure that I drove an extra 20 kilometers just to avoid the headache of that traffic and drove around the outside.  It is worth it for my peace of mind.  We picked up the puppy and returned the same way.  There is zero evidence that the puppy is sick and he is very happy to be with us once again.  14 dogs in residence at the moment.

I was in contact with the other gringo in town, probable cousin Roger Gagnon, to see if he liked fishing... because I am getting nowhere with Miguel.  Roger gave a big affirmative YES and suggests the fish pond that we pass every time we enter Tulua.  He says that he has caught tons of fish there using chicken hearts so Cristina and I took a walk to the nearby butcher to get some, and also some liver for the dogs.  Roger only likes freshwater fish so he gives them away or throws them back.  It costs about 25c to fish there and then pay for what you keep.  Roger keeps quite busy helping neighbours' children go the school and music lessons, so I am not sure what morning he can get away.  He suggests the best time is 8am...  Hopefully that will happen soon....

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  Uploading the photos today was just crazy...  I had to resort to doing them one by one!!!

That was the day’s excitement.

Saturday October 29, 2022

The water came back at 10:10pm last night.  Grrrrrrrrrr  This was after I had watched the new movie Black Adam (only 2 Stars) followed by the new Elvis movie which passes the test, although I sure didn't like Tom Hanks awful accent for his role as Col. Tom Parker who was of Dutch descent.  I actually looked up an interview with the Col. and Hanks overdoes it way too much!  And the girl chosen to play Priscilla couldn't hold a candle to Priscilla's natural beauty.  But the story is mostly true (and they sure skipped a lot of important details), and apparently got a thumbs up from both Priscilla and Lisa Marie.

The walk this morning was unusual in that we came across both fillies, together near the one's pasture, with no mares or stallions about....  Very strange indeed.  After another evening rain last night, things were a little wet and I had to walk off a kink in my right hip.  I didn't notice the sky so it must have been the usual dark panel.

So I got up later than normal at 8:30am only to find that we were once again without water for the whole day.  Who knows when it will reappear.  A person would think that the water company would have worked out a solution by now, but no-o-o-o-o-o-o.....  We rely on water and electricity (and internet) for so many things.

Cristina made me enough spaghetti and meat sauce (2 lbs of beef) for lunch for both today and tomorrow, then off she went to spend the day with Adiela again.

Rio is slowly learning to behave herself and she spends most of her time tustling with little Manchas who doesn't back down from anything.  We are trying to solve a diarrhea problem for the little guy.  Who knew such little pups could be so prolific in the poop department.  I hope he gets adopted soon and we can be puppyless for a while.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  The uploads are real swift now.

That was the day’s excitement.
