Wow, May is over today...

We headed in late morning to pick up Cristina's Mom, Ana Julia smd give her a late Mother's Day treat.  I paid my health insurance while we were in the area and slipped across town to a Herradura where we had a nice lunch at Mr Wok.  Their deep-fried shrimp were extra tasty today.

Then the women bored me to death with clothes shopping and then a coffee.   God give me patience...  Sorry it's all been spent.

On the way back, we stopped at the place where Ana Julia usually picks up her monthly Government stipend (pension) and this time they refused it because she needed a copy of her cedula.  When you want to find a copy shop, you can't,... and Miguel's old printer doesn't work....  Oh well...  They can sort it out.

Then we went to HomeCenter to get more mouse poison, and drill bits to replace those broken by Aram.  I also picked up a few more screws which always come in handy.  I am in my element in a hardware store, but I still just quickly find what I want, buy it and get out....

Naturally, Cristina now wanted insecticide for the orange trees, available only back on the other side of town, where we were an hour earlier.....  Grrrrrrrr.  I will give her credit though, this time she didn't dally at all.  Insecticide isn't sexy or come in an array of style and colours.

Finally leaving Tulua, we saw soldiers deploying on the overpass we use to come and go.  I don't know if this is in response to another strike being called or not, but probably.....   I, for one, am darn glad to have the army there to stare down the hooligans that want to hold the public hostage.  I will help...  Just give me a sniper's rifle with a night scope....

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Sunday May 30, 2021

Yes, FREEDOM at last when President Duque finally sent in the Police and the Army to clear the roads of the barricades and protesters.  For over a month they have held the populace hostage and put everyone at risk for food, medicine, appointments, etc.  And prices have shot up for most things due to the shortages.  Our province, which contains the drug capital, Cali, was the worst hit by these goons and it is such a relief to be able to go into the city of Tulua again.  I am still shocked that the drug cartels put up with the interruption in their land routes.  There were still remnants of barricades blocking one lane in a couple of spots, but nothing serious.

Overnight we have been without water for 2 days now.  I don't know why, but at least that causes the least disruption in our lives.

So it was with extreme pleasure that I joined Wolf at David's place this morning to watch a MotoGP race from near Florence (Firenze), Italy.  Wolf brings sandwiches from the German restaurant, David supplies coffee, mustard, pickles and onions and I bring chicharon for dessert.  So it is a nice way to spend the morning.  But the race was tempered by the death of a 19 year-old Swiss rider, Jason Dupasquier, in Moto3 qualifying yesterday.

In the MotoGP race, My guys, Fabio Quartararo and Marc Marquez were in 1st and 10th positions respectively.  Marc had a tough time qualifying on this very difficult track with many hard corners because of his injury, and crashed out early.  Fabio lost the lead briefly on the first lap but regained it and never looked back, holding his lead on the Championship.  His main rival in this race, Bagnaia, also crashed out.  The Yamahas and Suzukis, with their superior handling and cornering ability, were able to hold off the challenges from the Ducatis who owned the speed on the long straightaway.   A good race by my man Fabio.

Seeing images of Florence just reinforces my need to travel again.  Florence is definitely one place I need to see again (our 2009 tour only gave us 4 hours there which upset me greatly, but otherwise was a fantastic tour).

Cristina and I made a quick shopping trip downtown here but were met with empty shelves, and it was hard to find even basic milk and bread.   And prices were definitely higher on most items.  Hopefully the transport trucks will soon resume deliveries of the needed goods.  The strike has caused a lot of harm.

Aram came by to donate his extra dog medicines as Cristina and Claudia are sure to find good uses for them.  He will return for a movie tonight.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
