Sunday April 30, 2023

I was up early again, but quickly went back to bed again, getting up later to do my exercises and chores.

After lunch (using the new toaster), I dressed and put on my new slip-on runners from Amazon, shorts and a sweatshirt, and went down to get the Golden.  I was worried that the runners might be too tight, a half-size larger was not available, but I used very thin socks and all was well.

From there, we went south along 109 Street (we can't just say 9th St any more, like the old days) past the Legislature and onto the 109 St Bridge.  From there, on the west side, I could look down onto the LRT bridge that goes all the way to Southgate Mall.  Also below, I remembered the Royal Glenora Club, where my son, Todd, made the ice for famous figure skaters Kurt Browning and Kristi Yamaguchi who were winning world titles back then.  Todd was an excellent ice maker and he went on to make ice for many years in the City arenas.

It was really windy up there on the bridge, and the better views were on the east side so I back-tracked and moved over there, traveling under the pipe and spray valves for the High-Level Waterfall that used to run on special occasions.  I don't know if they do that any more??

I continued on the Golden, above the Kinsmen Fieldhouse grounds, to the far south end of the bridge, keeping the Golden at most at half-speed to manage the battery.  I took a video with my phone of the view of downtown, the river, and the few high-rises on the south embankment, and put that on FaceBook.  I was really surprised at the poor quality with the trees all pixelating.

Coming back, we (Golden and I) were above people playing sports and sunning themselves in the Fieldhouse playing fields.  Spring has definitely sprung.  We could use some more rain to really bring back the green and fill out the trees which still look very bare.

The battery was doing well, so I circled the Legislature again, this time in daylight, with the flags straight out in the brisk wind.  I heard a squirrel chirping at me and found it.

Then it was nap time again, where my daydreams were all of my favourite dog, Turi, and how much I miss her..

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  Again, not many captions needed.  That was the day’s excitement.

Saturday April 29, 2023

Somebody's car alarm went off at 4:30am and continued for a solid 2 minutes or more.  Since I was awake, and it was 6C outside, I decided to get up to catch the Alberta Legislature for the 6:03am sunrise...

I took the Golden and was virtually the only person on the grounds, except for 1 squirrel, 4 rabbits and one pedestrian walk-by...  I lucked out as the gap at the horizon allowed the clouds to light up bright pink as I got the right angle on the building.  I can't remember the last time I was on the grounds.  Ellis-Don Construction has closed off all the centre Park area where the fountains usually operate but that did not impact the sunrise shots.

I found a versatile professional tripod on FaceBook Marketplace and the owner agreed to deliver it.  It should work for me, even shooting over crowds as it raises to almost 7' high.

I got my 3 last Amazon deliveries around noon.

Watching hockey playoffs is occupying my evenings.  Leafs have done well.  Now waiting for our Oilers to shut down L.A. Kings...

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  No captions today.  That was the day’s excitement.
