Sunday January 31, 2021

Last night,we got a surprise phone call, then visit from vet John Faber Rojas and his darling son Martin, actually bringing us 3 sliders and a large hamburger, with fries, dip, and 2 small Cokes!  No problem!  I can eat hamburgers every day and we all demolished that feast easily...  So how many people have a veterinarian that makes house calls and brings food, with no bill attached?  He wanted to check on Zorra who is doing really well.

This morning, again we didn't see Charlie the horse on our dog walk.  They must have put him in another pasture because it seems like a week since we saw him last.

However we did see the black dog, Negro, who was active enough to want to play with our dogs.   As long as there is no traffic in the area, I will unleash a couple of our dogs to run and play for a few moments.  They are good enough to return when called.  It did the heart good to know that Negro is better than we feared.

After a morning nap we headed to the vet Huellas for more antiseptic cream and then visited Christian's grave at the cemetery.  Cristina had more blue stones to add to the ground cover.  The grave, and the flowering shrubs, which have revived from the ant infestation, looks really good.

On a nearby grave, someone had 2 small angels that I had not noticed before.  They were so cute I had to memorialize them.

Then we stopped at the restaurant across from the high school, Sazon de Isabel, for a fantastic pok cutlet lunch.  Sorry.  It looked so good that I ate 1/2 of it before remembering to take a picture.  This meal, with huge soup and small pitcher of drinks was 15,000 pesos.  I always bristle at prices over 10,000p, but it is really only $4.20 USD!  And that is not too shabby to easily feed 2 people.

A long afternoon nap was needed too.  Tylenol is really helping with my back problem.  Sleeping through the pain is easier than trying to move around like a snail.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Saturday January 30, 2021

Last night, it was past 6:30 when we finally picked up Zorra.  It turns out that she is much older, and much sicker, than we thought.  She apparently fought the anaesthesia all the way so the surgery was challenging.  She also has poor, watery blood so special diet is required for her too.  Almost 2 hours on the operating table and the tab was 80,000 pesos or $22.42 USD...  We are very grateful to have such an awesome vet as John.

Since it was so late, I was not in the mood for making my salad so I went to the corner and ordered my style of bacon cheeseburger and fries for 12,000 pesos or $3.36 USD... delivered..  I am sure such a good burger and fries would be at least triple that in the USA.

My cousin Big Mac (Marius) Bourassa (as opposed to other cousin Little Mac) put me in contact with his grandson Matthew who lives in Vancouver and is a budding photographer.  This could be a good pen pal relationship with one of the hundreds of cousins that I have never met.

Niece Ana was tired, and because Celeste has passed on, she has passed on spending the weekend with us.  Claudia also rescheduled our house cleaning from today until Monday, so all our plans were for nought.

The morning, after poop and garbage patrol, I found that I couldn't even move Killer by myself and my back started screaming at me.  I have been on my TENS machine ever since.  I have yet to resort to drugs, but that is coming soon.

I got a call from friends Ed and Lynne in Cuenca.  Unfortunately they both are having health issues so a move to a lower altitude may be in the offing.  We wish them good luck in their future endeavors.

Then I got a call from my sister Leonie who is so great at calling everyone in the family every month and passing along news to keep us in touch.  That is such a lovely way to know what is happening.  I really need to phone more often myself...

I did struggle outside to take some photos for you, hand-held.  Tom Thumb is still being uncooperative.  I was shocked to see more spider webs popping up all over, even above Killer's dog house.  Some of those will have to be forcibly moved.  There is not much evidence of trapped insects in any of the webs so the Golden Silk Spiders must be quick to the feeding table.  I know that you may be getting tired of so many photos of them, but they are so darn many, and so fascinating.  Gotta love their colours.

The dogs were going bananas outside and an investigation revealed that the northern neighbour was taking down a tree that overhung our wall and was a favourite spot for many of the birds.  I can't say anything because it is his tree.  I could however have said something when he send a large branch crashing on our side onto my "clotheslines", almost taking them down....

An unusual sight popped up above that north wall when I saw a paraglider having fun in the thermals above town.  I can imagine the great views and exhilaration of being on those huge kites.  If I am ever offered a double ride some day, I am airborne, ....with camera of course.....

The neighbour to the south has, without permission, run pipes from his swimming pool to a rooftop air conditioner on my side of the wall.  Right now, there is no purpose served by making a stink.  Latin Americans have such a "me first" attitude that gets tiresome after a while.   That is my burning corner so I may get revenge innocently some day.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  The first 2 batches you see uploaded backwards again, damned Google..............That was the day’s excitement.
