Tuesday June 23, 2026

Saturday I was supposed to go watch the Edmonton Elks play the Montreal Alouettes.  My former seatmate, Lorraine, had an extra free ticket.  But I looked up the forecast to confirm the view from my window, and 10C, constant rain and a driving wind did not bode well...  I took a pass and watched the Elks win a wild one.  My Stampeders have now blown 2 games in a row, ...the bums...

Sunday, I had 2 tickets for the Father's Day BBQ downstairs, catered by the Sawmill restaurant.  My original guest was away, and my second offer didn't show, so I passed it on to a poor lady in the building.  The meal was OK for the price.  If you were late to eat, you had hotdogs, no hamburgers because some yo-yos made double burgers...

I am watching a lot of the World Cup soccer and reading voraciously to counteract the crappy weather El Nino is dishing us...

Monday, a friend from Cuenca, Ecuador, Marcos, from our old "Moto" Thursday night group, who "shills" for many entrepreneurs online, posted some beautiful horse paintings on FaceBook and I contacted him about purchasing one.  It turns out that it is his mother-in-law who is the painter.  I am still awaiting final pricing, etc.

So, I also contacted my old buddy, Oswaldo Toral, also from Cuenca and, lo and hehold, the painter is the niece of one of his brothers-in-law!  I should have expected that... Oswaldo is related to everyone in Ecuador..

And I spoke to my buddy Gustavo, and it is still a possibility that he will visit here by September...  I owe that man so much..!!

Today, I finished the last of my current pile of Kathy Reichs books so I watch more World Cup and watched the Blew Jays blow a game again..  I stepped out again to the common because they had a bunch of cheap $4.50 specials on Tuesdays so I had the Pulled pork quesedilla and a crispy fish taco.  It was nice to get outside because we finally are getting a few days of sun, maybe only 3, before rain returns.

It is not looking good for Saturday when I have agreed to take wedding pictures........ Grrrrrrrrrrr

Tonight Colombia plays in the World Cup again.  We wish them success.

Tomorrow, I have to return 5 books to the Library, whether or not the 4 I have on hold are ready yet....

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Friday June 19, 2026

Canada surprised everyone at the World Cup soccer last evening, clobbering Qatar 6-0.  Two of the Qatar squad were ejected for dirty plays, one breaking our Ismael Kones leg in 2 places.  The score serves them right!  It has been a very long time since Canada has scored a bunch, and it is the first time a CONCACAF squad has scored 6 goals at the World Cup!  Congrats to the Canadian squad!

Since today is the only nice day in what seems like forever, ... I decided to make use of it for an outing to Gibbons to visit my old buddy Ken Johnston (KJ).  He is turning 88 in 9 days and I wanted to take him for a nice lunch.  We went to Fort Saskatchewan and he decided on a Tim Horton's chicken sandwich.  This is because his teeth don't fit so he has to gum his food, poor guy.

KJ has been a good buddy for many years and still gets around, with one good eye and no socks...  He is a character and today I actually heard a few new stories.  I am glad that I went out...

Saw a couple of coyotes in a field too.

Now, I said that the day was nice,.. and it was... everywhere except under the one storm cloud over Fort Saskatchewan, lol...  We just waited it out.

I had ordered off a Facebook Sponsored Ad, 3 bone induction hearing aids.  As soon as I got the shipping notice, I knew they were only sending 2... and no amount of emails to their supposed customer service changed that...  Of course they came from China, as does almost everything advertised on Facebook, and I hoped this experience would be different.... but no dice...  Even the packaging says they are only "sports wireless headset"!!!  They are great for Bluetooth music and answering the phone, but I doubt there will be any difference for hearing...  The testing has begun...

Blogger seems to have corrected itself..... Finally!!

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
