Tuesday January 31, 2023

Cristina slept over at Adiela's Sunday night because she couldn't reach me after I went to bed.  I do not bring my cel phone to bed with me.  But I hardly slept a wink anyway, so did not walk the dogs.

Monday, she contacted me around 6:30am and I went to pick her up with my co-pilots.

I didn't know what time City Hall opened, so I went before 8am, expecting to wait, but they were opened at 7:30am and there was no lineup.  And then, I had forgotten that we could now pay on the spot with our debit card, so I was out of there within 5 minutes!  I don't know why I stress over this every year...  Our taxes went up a bit from 623,068 to 657,154 pesos from last year, so that converted to $135.06 to $142.45 USD... Annual.  Gee, I used to pay over $200 a month 9 years ago in Okotoks!

We had a delicious lunch with some good steaks and small yellow potatoes, with enough left over for Tuesday...

I spent most of Monday afternoon shopping on Amazon and then had problems again once I hit the checkout with extra import charges being added that should not be there.  I called in again to Support which must be in India because we never get a person we can understand easily.  The one I got this time could not understand my simple English so after 1/2 hour I asked to speak to a supervisor.  How people reach supervisory positions with so limited knowledge is beyond me.  When they suggest that cancelling the order might be the best option they are not doing anyone any favors...   So,  remembered what I had to do last time and deleted 2 bigger items and the extra charges disappeared...  Then I re-ordered the 2 items and they came up properly, but decided against one of them at the last second!  I should move to India to become an Amazon Supervisor!  Then, of course, Cristina came by wanting to buy a pet carrier backpack, so I had to make a third order.

I watched a NetFlix movie about Bruce Lee and then watched one of my downloaded torrent suggested movies "The Menu"...  Good actors in a turkey of a movie always mystifies me....  So far, the movies I downloaded from a list of "underrated" movies have mostly been underrated for valid reason....

This morning, I only had 2 dogs with me so I forwent the walk and caught up on my sleep.

I redid the nectar for Tom Thumb but have yet to catch his return.

We ran into Tulua to pay my health insurance, now 98,000 pesos or under $21 USD...  It is almost a year since I have used it for a medical checkup before going to Canada...

Then we went hunting in Tulua for a replacement to our mop-wringer pail which I broke.  None could be found locally this time.  We walked a few blocks before finding the right one for 10,000 pesos or  $2.14 USD!  I was tempted to buy 2...

We stopped at D-UNO in Tulua and managed to stock up on livers for dog food, broom handles and laundry stuff.

We stopped at the fishing spot and they had a large package of about 20 of those long ham sausages so I bought the whole thing for 50,000 pesos, or $10.71 USD...  I keep thinking we need to have a BBQ again and invite people.

It is 32.5C at my desk as the heat continues to climb as the sun moves back toward us.  The watering I gave the plants sure helped, but we really need a good rain now.

Tonight is supposed to be the best night to see that rare comet in the northeast sky just above the Big Dipper.  The best time is supposed to be 10pm and I am not pre-disposed to waste my time finding a dark place with no ambient light to try to see it and photograph it.  If I happen to see that the sky is cloudless later, I just might attempt it... but, according to the Internet, I would have to go many miles inland on crappy roads to find pitch black...

Cristina has 2 friends here and they are cooking, just adding to the heat in the house...  Time for a cool nap maybe??

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Sunday January 29, 2023

The photos today are from yesterday's 90-minute trip to the cemetery.  I always enjoy the magnificent views from there and love the mist between the ranges of the coastal cordillera.  Cristina covered up the boring plaque with the photo of Christian with hearts and flowers like before.

I find that I start watching a new series on NetFlix and quickly get bored with the same, predictable plots over and over...

I ate the rest of those ham sausages for supper last night.  I couldn't resist....  Of course, the dogs happily help me.

I only had 3 dogs with me this morning as Buddy decided to sleep in.  The air was acrid with smoke from sugar cane field burning to the west.  I think they do it at that time to reduce complaints as everyone is asleep.  We came across the piggies fast asleep on the grass across from their residence.  They didn't even budge as we went by.

I changed the route a tad and came across a frustrated drunk thief trying to break into a pickup truck.  Even when I yelled at him and pretended to take his photo he just continued making a mess of the truck, holding a finger to his lips asking me to be quiet...  I suppose I should have done more, but I don't need any police hassles here or some guy wanting revenge.  I hope my yelling woke the neighbours.

I took Cristina into Tulua to spend time with sister Adiela and niece Natalia.  My 4 co-pilots were very well-behaved, even when I cramped their space with a metal table that Cristina had made me bring home.

I made a stop at Rancho Panorama, our fishing spot, to get more of those ham sausages, but they didn't have any.  I will stop again the next time I am in Tulua.

I managed to watch a bit of under-18 male curling on CBC by using a VPN on the computer.

They keep predicting an afternoon rain, but it is very dry here.  A thunderstorm passed us to the south with no benefit to us but the noise.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
