The big smiles returned to Cristina this morning as her rescued birds came to the windowsill for a very brief visit. She heard their distinctive cheeps from downstairs and rushed up to see them feeding on the seeds that she leaves there. They appear to be still together and obviously thriving so Mother Goose is one happy camper again.
Chicken Fried Steak was the delicious offering tonight (my favourite) at Joes' Secret Garden.  It was also a birthday feast for our friend Karen who turned 29, with 39 years experience today.  Even though we did not notify Ken until early afternoon, the boys made sure that our area was decorated especially for the Birthday girl.
After the delicious appetizers (of which I ate way too many), and a corn chowder soup, I had little room left for my favourite meal, let alone the apple peach cobbler.
Somehow, the forecast today was for 90% chance of rain, and it threatened almost all day, but it just didn't happen.  I was brave and rode Buzzer there and back without getting wet.  Hey, I don't mind rain, as long as it happens when I am sleeping...
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day’s excitement.
Cheers, Al

The physio today was good and it was the Birthday of the blind masseur. He seemed to really enjoy the attention. They brought in a saxophonist to play Happy Birthday and everything..
Then my therapist, Lorena, says I will have no physio tomorrow because she is taking a course, and none on Monday because it is Primero de Mayo holiday. I will find out later if they extend my physio by 2 days or not which will run into my second bout of physio here and, on May 5, I could potentially have 3 rounds of physio on the same day because I have the neurological massage on that day as well... Maybe that is what it will take to break my logjam.
So I had scheduled a Spanish lesson for today and I was captivated by the gorgeous hibiscus tree in the front. So many beautiful red flowers in full bloom...
Teo and I had political discussions in Spanglish for a while as I try to get a better handle on the real political scene here. There is so much back history, dirty dealings and scary future potential unrest that we don't really hear about. There is talk of mercenary gangs coming south to be hired by the Government to keep the opposition scared. One of the gangs mentioned is Mara Salvatrucha which is particularly scary (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS-13) and (http://www.insightcrime.org/el-salvador-organized-crime-news/mara-salvatrucha-ms-13-profile). It really would be scary if these people actually worked on behalf of the Government...
Anyway, we made new appointments for Spanish class for the now-open Friday and Monday.
Surprisingly we had a Thursday night without rain so I made my way to meet the Herederos group at the Puente Roto (Broken Bridge). There were celebrations going on at the Escalinata as well as the Puente Roto and I never bothered to find out what for. I don't think today's date has any particular significance. Maybe everybody else is happy for a rain-free Thursday as well, lol.
We actually got away early tonight and rode east, past our place, to go to Nulti, just shy of Challuabamba. There wasn't too much happening in Nulti so we just had some camaraderie near the church.
I knew that one of our members had died in the past week or so and I enquired about it. Dany Henry, a 24-year-old, had had a drink or two and slammed into a parked truck that had no reflectors of any kind. So very sad to have a young life snuffed out like that.
Saturday there is a group of motos riding out from Guayaquil and the plan is for our group to meet them near Tres Cruces, the highest point between there and here. I am not sure if I will make it or not because of my normal Saturday commitment,.. and also Buzzer is still in break-in mode with only 500 Kms on it so I don't think I will, but never say never...
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day’s excitement.
Cheers, Al

Tuesday April 25, 2017
The morning was absolutely glorious, and I didn't even take a picture...  Shame on me.  This was the kind of day that we all long for.
Physio was the same as yesterday, but faster...  I had the blind masseur work more on my shoulder today and I felt better for a while.
Then I went back to Fishbon to finish taking the actor's photos and got 3 more.  Only one person was missing, the only Ecuadorian, and friend, Sandra.  I tried to contact Sandra and Mac and get them to at least send me a photo but they declined.  Oh well, I gave it my best shot.  I just got a message that they wanted to comp me a ticket for one of the shows but I declined.  Of course I am busy Saturday and I don't care for downtown too much at night, especially on Sunday (lousy bus service).
I also did some work to prepare for my niece's visit, booking a hostal in Olon, a tour to Isla de la Plata (Poor Man's Galapagos), and a hotel right on the beach in Salinas.  We'll certainly be hopping those first few days.
So I actually got to sit down tonight and watch Hacksaw Ridge.  Tremendous movie, if you don't mind the continual gore in the war sequences.  It sure cures me from wanting to go to war.
Google is really acting up tonight and I have just about had enough of their glitches.  My sister says the Subscriptions quit again after the 13th.... UGH!  And tonight I couldn't respond to her email, or phone on NetTalk, and this Blog disappeared on me..  Kill Google and lousy internet reception!
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day’s excitement.
Cheers, Al

The physio today was a tad different.  They still started off with the Magnet machine and then I went for the TENS machine with heat, but this time in the prone facedown position which works much better and is much easier than sitting and trying to hold onto the weighty heat pad.  Then, instead of the funny push-the-gel-around massage, they had a blind man actually give me a physical massage.  So I actually felt better when I left today.
Then I finally went to Mr Motorcycle, run by the Benenaula family, and Cristina had my new helmet ready!!  While it is heavier it does not feel so because it is such a good, secure fit.  It has the in tegral sunvisor and full clear visor with a removable chin guard.  Normally I hate helmets with the chin guard because they block my downward view and I can't see my bike controls or speedometer, but this one does not give me those problems so I just may keep the chin guard.  maybe like my buddy Oswaldo I will enjoy the extra anonymity....
In the morning I had received a message from a FaceBook friend asking if I could be available to take photos today of the actors for an upcoming play at Fishbon.  I agreed and rode over in horrible traffic but made it on time.  So we took photos today of a director, a music man, and 6 actors using their backdrop and the natural light from the skylight.  Sorry that I am so horrible with names, so I won't mention any,.. you'll have to guess who they are, ha, ha.
Then they tell me that not everyone is there so I agreed to return tomorrow as well.
Once I got home I personalized my new helmet.
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day’s excitement.
Cheers, Al
