Last night, I enjoyed a 49 minute Facebook chat with my younger brother Germain from Saskatoon. Catching up on family news is really so easy and yet we don't do it nearly often enough. I can certainly count my blessings.
Today, I was at David's by 7:30am to set up "breakfast" for him prior to the start of today's Formula 1 race from near Budapest, Hungary. This track is notorious for its few opportunities to pass anoither driver. Hamilton had the post, partner Bottas second and Verstappen third, his partner Perez fourth. My guy, Charles LeClerc was in 7th.
The starting grid almost didn't matter because the very first corner, at the end of a rain, was slick and slippery. Nobody was prepared, except for using rain tires, especially Bottas, who had a horrible start and was speeding so much to regain position that he couldn't slow down for the corner, rear-ending Lando Norris, and setting off a game of bumper cars. Four drivers, Bottas, LeClerc, Perez and Canadian Lance Stroll were out right away. With a yellow flag, almost everyone pitted to change to regular tires because the track was drying, except Hamilton who tried to build his lead. Bad move... Then the red flag came out and the lead was for nought, the delay being over 1/2 hour. After restart, Hamilton was forced to pit, dropping from firt to last place, and Frenchman Esteban Ocon had snuck into the lead from 8th place and he never relinquished it either. Hamilton is never to be discounted because he has the fastest car and the grit and determination and skill to compete. However,.. it was Driver Of The Day, Ocon's partner, Fernando Alonso, who was the star of the show, successfully blocking Hamilton for many laps and saving the race for Ocon. Hamilton still got 3rd, while another wily veteran, Sebastian Vettel, had followed Ocon all day to take 2nd place. Max Verstappen had damage to his car and wasn't a factor, finishing a disappointing 10th. Great racing guys! At the end, almost all the cars were out of gas, not able to complete a victory lap, and the drivers jogging to the podium and garages.
Cristina and I made a quick run to the cemetery with Turi and Nene. Nene was just so excited to be out and on the leash that he explored the whole place, with me and Yuri in tow. I certainly didn't mind giving our little man some needed excitement and exercise. Then we made a short drive to BugaLaGrande but the booths selling Cholado weren't open.
I hope you enjoy the pictures = NIAGA SDRAWKCAB = Watch from the bottom up... Sorry..... Blasted Google. That was the day’s excitement.

Sugar Cane "train" throws a lot of dust Nene and Turi exploring the cemetery The grave looks good. Ocon's first win. He is excited to sing the French anthem Happy for Esteban to finally break through Ocon's partner Alonso was the story of the day Hamilton's tires at the end Ocon and Alonso celebrate and run out of gas A nice surprise end to this race Ocon gets the checkered flag Sainz can't hold off Hamilton Hamilton finally passes Alonso Hamilton speeds after Sainz Hamilton is scratching his way up the board Hamilton is last after pitting behind everyone else Everyone pits except Hamilton, inexplicably Yellow flag soon became red flag, stopping the race Charle LeClerc is done for the day Bottas really pays for his blunder Bottas careens into the wall This allows guys like Ocon and vettel to sneak up Half the field is off the track Chain reaction beginning Bottas rear-ends Norris Bottas brakes too late Wet conditions only at the start Hamilton first, Bottas second to start Hard track to pass anyone in Hungary
