An apology first...  I could have had this Blog out 5 hours ago maybe, but I crashed and burned for 3 hours after processing the photos.  Most people have no idea how much concentration and effort that this work entails.
Last night, Jodie Mansfield was talking about Iceland at the supper table at Joes'.  Today I get an email from a cousin in northern Alberta, Canada, sending me multiple incredible photos of..... you guessed, Iceland!   Life brings so many of these twilight zone happenings, doesn't it...
One of our Herederos group, Cristina, sent an invite to a Provincial Motocross Championship today.  The weather was just incredible so I put on a sleveless shirt and rode out to the Honda track on Toxic.   One of the first persons I saw was another Herederos rider, Vicky, and I saw she was wearing #20.  I later did see Cristina at a food kiosk and waved but did not see what number she was.  It was only when I got home that I could read the fine print of names on the back of the schedule, and it turns out that Cristina was the aggressive #5 in the women's race that I was impressed with, but did not get any photos unfortunately.  Later I saw Harold, another of the Herederos as well.
Circling the track I saw some kids, probably no more than 7 years old, ripping around on minibikes with no fear in their eyes at all.  Watching the air time that these riders get on the big jumps is breathtaking.
As a former Insurance Broker, I cringe at the lack of precautions and lack of protections at such events in Ecuador.  Anyone could literally walk right out onto the track from anywhere, and in fact, some of my photos are from between the riding trails.  I am very happy with the photos from the big Canon and hope it did not get too much dust in this endeavor.  I also had the Lumix with me and thought of taking a video before leaving, but I was on the dusty east side by then and decided not to wreck the new baby.
It is so commonplace now that I forget to mention that I was again the only white face in the crowd.  It doesn't bother me in the least anymore.
I lasted about 2 hours before I figured I had better get my skin under cover, so I came home, did the obligatory dog walk, and you know the rest..

I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Quite a fun event

Vicky is the one holding the white helmet in the center

And a men's group leaves the starting blocks

This riding is not for the faint of heart

They were blessed with a great day for riding

One of the perks for winning a race?

They are more than happy to pose to relieve the boredom

Riding into the sky

Lots of jumps

Many are strategic to skip to another hill

The other side of the card says only 1 lap to go

Some of these guys are really flying!

Vicky #1

Vicky #2

Vicky #3

Vicky #4

Vicky #5

Vicky #6

Nobody was jumping with this beauty

One of the fearless kids

Moving around the track

It looks like so much fun

Very dusty in spots

Sometimes they need to angle off a jump

have to admire their skill

Timing, skill and speed, the names of the game

Gotta love the Andes as a backdrop!

Up, up and away...

Many laps to complete a race (usually 15?)

What a great spot for photos

My first time here.  I want to come back...

Nice to have not too many restrictions on movement

Also nice to have a cooperative camera

I counted 21 races on the program!

And they couldn't ask for better weather...

And another race begins

Getting the jump on the competition at the beginning

This has to be quite taxing on the mind and body

Thank you to John & Barbie for hosting another delightful afternoon gathering in the sunshine at their lovely home.  The weather cooperated for a lovely potluck attended by a lot of old friends.
We had lively conversation and enjoyable music to go along with barbequed chicken and ribs and many side dishes and desserts.
I could have sworn that I was hearing Harry Belafonte as John and Barbie wanted their photos taken near the banana tree first, then the lemon tree.  I'll bet you are humming those tunes at the mere mention of them too.
I also got asked to take photos some time next month of some artworks.  Stay tuned.
My only problem was having to eat twice in succession as I had to work at Joe's Secret Garden following this party.  This old man came rolling home, ..as goes that old song...

I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Many folks opted to enjoy the sunshine

Some folks opted for the shade near the musicians
