Yesterday I was up at 8:30am and got on another shopping kick with Amazon then, at the Checkout, I opted to get their free Credit card since it would save me $35 on my next purchase and a percentage thereafter..

They sent me an email (turns out it is run by TD Bank) and they wanted me to go prove my identity and address at a Canada Post outlet..!!!  WTF???  I called the 800 number and told them they could jam the credit card if they were going to force me to jump through hoops!  Within minutes, I was approved and when I asked the credit limit they were allowing me, they said $6,000!!!  That is more than my own bank is allowing!  I will be reducing that limit once I receive the card...

Then Bob came down and I ordered an ear syringe for him, same as he saw in his doctor's office..

Now the humidifier delivery is delayed until March 1st, or I can get a full refund...  Funny how it seems so much drier in here during this long wait...

I watched a period of the Women's Professional Hockey game between Ottawa and New York.  I could get hooked on that as they seem to have more room than the men!

Then I watched the Oilers pull another 3-2 win in overtime while I started a new John Grisham book, Camino Winds...

This morning I was up at 8:30 again and was going through some of my Bookmarks on Firefox and I came across WagJag which my sister uses successfully.  So I tried it and ordered a few needed things, like an electric blanket, mostly for my cold feet...

I went with Don in his van over to the Canada Post outlet nearby at the Shoppers Drug Mart on 117 St and picked up the new 70-300mm Tamron lens.  As I was leaving here, my phone rang and I did a u-turn to the lobby to find my Amazon delivery guy calling me for a package!   I now have the 144 pens and the 20 clamps I ordered...

I took a few test shots (below) with the Tamron and sadly it is no better than the Nikon 70-300....  I guess I had better put less trust in the testing by others....  So my go-to lens will definitely be the new 28-300mm Nikon for the foreseeable future.

I have begun cleaning out my sling bag to use to carry the D850 (Brutus) because of his weight.... and, I am preparing the D5600 for storage with all its components...

I got a knock at the door and I was surprised to see an upstairs neighbour, (Anita) standing there....  Rocque from the office referred her to me as some kind of technology expert because she fears that her phone was hacked and that maybe her Hisense TV is watching her.  Don happened to be here looking over the camera equipment and giving his expert advice so we discussed her anxieties and hopefully put those to rest...

I had a box of salt'n'pepper wings in the freezer so I decided to cook them for supper....   I put tin foil on the upper rack and then brought out my new, large flat pan only to realize that it is too darn big to fit in my oven!!!  So now I am using my cake pan....  Hope it turns out...

Leap year day....  Am I supposed to be waiting for marriage proposals or something???

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Tuesday February 27, 2024

Yesterday, I slept over 12 hours to 11am, deciding there was no rush to watch the drifting snow outside and challenge the cold weather.  The wind chill is much too high for this old guy...

The humidity in my place stays at 16% which is hard on the old nose, etc so I started boiling water all day, getting it up to over 40% at one point but it dropped right back once I stopped.  I even caught the pot in time once it went dry...  I would have hated to ruin that new pot...

I had another nap and then got to work on uploading some new artworks and was doing really well until Bob called to come up and watch the Oilers win again.  Then I was up until 1:30am again...

Today I was chipper at 9am and even swept and mopped the place.  One day I will get around to dusting....

I heard from the guys where I bought the cheap Ultimaxx 440-800mm lens on Amazon.  They wanted a photo of what arrived in the package, so I was happy to accommodate them.

Basically I was killing time, waiting for the 28-300mm Nikon lens to arrive.  Since a watched pot never boils, I went for a nap around 3:30pm and the knock at the door happened around 4pm...

I set up the new lens with a good UV filter and added a cap keeper to the lens cap.  Then I grabbed the recycling stuff and some bird seed and went outside with the D850 and the new lens to test it out.

There were no birds around, but they were plowing the parking lot so I took a few shots.  Then Bob called to come and have some heavy stew and watch some Montreal Canadiens hockey, so I went up and then took a few more test shots, including a couple after dusk.

The good news is that the new lens works quickly and has no problem with the low light without the flash.  Unfortunately there is still "noise" in every shot but I have perfected the quick way to combat that.  The new camera has more than double the megapixels of the D5600, shoots full-frame and the pictures are larger and slightly sharper overall.  The D850 with the lens is very heavy but I feel so much more professional with this brute.  I think I will call it Brutus...

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
