The kittens are a riot but hard on the legs with their sharp claws as they try to climb on us. I have named the white one Whitey of course, and the one with the orange stripe on its forehead I call Stripes. I have yet to come up with a suitable name for the black and white one. Assistance would be appreciated.
Lorena had said she would come between 9 and 10am. I had been outside since 8am preparing things and was not impressed when 10am went by quietly. Cristina lamented that she was always unreliable. So I asked Cristina to find me a worker, Claudia or Daniel, or whoever. In 15 minutes Claudia's son, Estiven, was at our door and willing to work so we got right at it. Lorena showed up around 10:45 spouting excuses so I just told her that she didn't show up when she said, so we gave the job to someone else. Hopefully she will have learned a lesson for next time. I do want to help her but I don't put up with BS on my dime.
I firstly had Estiven reinstall the catwalk above the north wall. He was a little unsteady on the ladder and almost slipped once, but he got the job done.
Then I had him rake up all the dead leaves in the yard and transfer then to the burning barrel. He was slow, but methodical, and did clean work. We got the fire going and we added the dry branches and big leaves from my junk corner. It took a long time to actually get flames showing in the barrell so we just kept adding what we could. We also did a cleanup around the rabbit hutch that had been a long time coming. I took off all the wood and tile and tire protections and opened the door. I am hoping the dogs won't go digging in there. So far, so good.
Next was the cleanup of loose stones everywhere which we placed along the patio edge. The yard looked so much cleaner. I just worry that it will be muddier when it rains... I pitched in with moving leaves and rocks and then actual shoveling, which I now regret. It is a good thing that I was wearing my safety belt
Then I had him work the base of the perimeter walls, placing loose cement and stones into cracks caused by heaving and receding, ...anything to reduce the amount of mice coming from the neighbouring open lot.
We fed him lunch of our cheddar smokies which he really enjoyed, and beer while he was working. We paid him well and then it was time to crash for me, I was so beat...
I did not look forward to having to get up, shower etc, then chop up 2 heads of cabbage and make my salad, but here I am,.. still alive, but slow as molasses.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
