Sunday June 6, 2021

I couldn't quite finish my chores in time to be at David's by 6:45am for a morning of racing.  I also had to try 3 panaderias before I could find one open at that hour to get chicharon for dessert.

David had retained his housekeeper Claudia to come and make a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs with onions and tomatoes, deep-fries potato slices and fried spicy sausages.  Truly yummy!

Then Wolf, David and and I sat down to first watch Formula 1 racing from Azerbaijan.  My guy, Charles LeClerc had the pole position for the second race in a row (2 weeks ago he crashed at Monaco at the end of qualifying remember, and couldn't race... bummer).  He got a good short-lived start but was passed by Champion Lewis Hamilton quickly.  Hamilton then made a lock-up braking error and relegated himself to last place.  Max Verstappen took over the lead.

Canadian Lance Stroll crashed badly after a blowout on the left rear tire.  Verstappen was comfortably headed to an easy win when he had the same blowout of the left rear tire and also crashed, leaving enough debris for a red flag, halting the race with only a couple of laps to go.  Pirelli is going to be fielding a lot of angry questions about the identical tire failures....

This opened the door for the unlikely podium trio of Perez, Vettel and Gasly..  My guy seems to like coming in 4th (he does that a lot!).  His old partner Vettel ran a masterful race today.

Then it was onto MotoGP where my main guy there, Champ Marc Marquez was starting 13th and began to show his old form again as he made his way to contend with the leaders.  However he crashed again, third race in a row.

My second guy, Fabio Quartararo, was on pole again and started well but the long straightaway near Barcelo, Spain favoured the faster Ducatis and KTM's who gradually took control.  Perrennial favourite, The Doctor Valentino Rossi also crashed again to everyone's chagrin.

Fabio was finishing 3rd behind Portuguese rider Oliveira and fellow Frenchman Zarco, but was penalized for taking a forced shortcut on one corner and relegated to 4th place,  Australian Jack Miller inherited 3rd.

All in all, it was indeed a day of speed and surprises.

I picked up Cristina and we did a quick trip to the cemetery to add some artificial flowers we had bought late last week.

Aram has a ticket to get him to Tennessee on the 20th now that he has his paperwork in order.  He has a travel document from the American Embassy that needs to be in place of his expired passport and this needs to be explained to airport officials by the Embassy apparently.  He is coming over later to send some of the required paperwork.  Then we will watch a movie.

I hope you enjoy the pictures - all BACKWARDS AGAIN after fighting for 1/2 to get them uploaded. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  Sorry to make you look from the bottom up, again....

That was the day’s excitement.
