Today was basically devoted to a test run of having Luka, Aram's 9-month-old big Husky, in our home, with our 11 dogs, to see how they would get along for 3 hours..... The family is slated to leave in 12 days and they can't take Luka who will be shipped later when Avianca returns to supplying animal flights, estimated at 2 months from now.
Sadly things did not work too well. Luka is only 9 months but is already bigger than all our dogs. He is a puppy that needs to explore everywhere and mark his new territory with urine which did not please us much. On the plus side, he is completely, but overly, friendly, not aggressive at all, except in his desire to play all the time, and batting our poor dogs into submission with those huge paws of his. None of our dogs appreciated this, especially our boys, and would hide from him, and some would snap at him. A constant vigil was needed to be kept so that our dogs, especially both Ninas and Negrita didn't gang up on poor Luka and cause him harm. After he spilled all the dog food and water I had pretty much had enough.
At my age, I just don't need this extra stress of someone else's dog that has no manners and bowls over everything in its path. I would not dare leave the 12 dogs alone in the house.
All that being said, we hope they can find a better solution but will not leave them in a lurch if they can't. It is not Luka's fault that he is still a clueless puppy.
In the evening, people delivered the street dog Negro to us for safekeeping for chemotherapy tomorrow. For a street dog, Negro is perfectly mannered and causes zero problems. He is happy to sleep on soft furniture and do his business in the yard. Negro is such a good dog.
