It was a lovely morning for a walk and to go by the Gym to be sure they were open. I then made my way back to use my favourite machine.
After chores, I had a wonderful nap with 4 cooperative and quiet dogs on the bed, felt refreshed and had a nice shower. It is a lovely sunny and warm day.
I had the leftover Cheese Smokies for lunch and then Cristina and I decided to try to go to BugaLaGrande to ask about the next Sinovac dose. The distinct lack of traffic did not bode well. Remember that the streets were packed in town yesterday as everybody started stocking up because of the ongoing strike since April 28. Today it was more like a ghost town. As we entered the highway, and saw no cars, we knew that we wouldn't be going far...
Sure enough, at the next entrance to our town the highway was blocked by ripped up guardrails in 2 spots and guarded by at least 2 guys. So we turned back into town. We went straight through to the other end to see about getting to Tulua. Again, the lack of traffic was a bad omen. Like yesterday, we had traffic returning the wrong way on our side of the highway. A quick conversation with a motorcyclist confirmed the worst again.
At home we got an advisory from the Embassy that tomorrow another official national strike has been called. Comments online indicate that this is an attempt to push leftists into power by making the Government resign. This is a normal tactic in Latin America where corruption reigns.
Claudia tells us that the La Herradura Shopping Center in Tulua is reported to be a target for looting (her daughter works there). Hooligans and thieves always take advantage of these situations and the police are reportedly joining the strike, letting things occur without redress. Who knows when this will end.
Gas stations are out of petrol and soon stores will be empty and boarded up. This better end soon... Claudia has warned us that the electricity will be shut off tonight for an undetermined period.. Not good..
