Sunday July 28, 2019
It is an unusual day when my top 3 guys in Formula 1 all crash on a rainy day in Germany, my nemesis wins the race, and I am not unhappy....  Why???  Because,.. although much of the race was done under yellow flag/safety car, there was excitement, crashes, spinouts and drama.  Also Lance Stroll, the Canadian, who had a brief taste of 2nd place, finished in 4th, which is very respectable for their racing team.  Honda motors showed their prowess today with 1st and 3rd finishers for the Red Bull team.
The intermittent rain, crashes, yellow flags meant way more pit stops, tire changes, and repairs that I have ever seen in a race, with some having as many as 6 stops.  This year's leading points man, Lewis Hamilton, the winner of most races this season, had a disastrous day, having a crash, then surprising his pit crew with a horribly long unscheduled pitstop, and then ultimately crashing again.  He is usually one of the best drivers in the rain, but not today.  His Mercedes partner, Valterri Bottas, also crashed, as did my favourite Charles LeClerc.  At one point, they were 1, 2, and 3.  That opened up the door to a host of lesser lights who made the most of the situation.  My hated Max Verstappen was 1st, LeClerc's partner Sebastian Vettel was 2nd (coming all the way from last place), and the Russian, Daniil Kvyat, was 3rd.
This was a wild day with almost a 2-hour race.  This is what racing is meant to be, wild, unpredictable, and crazy.
All shots were with the new Nikon.  I am pleased.
Cristina made lunch for her mother and sister today, even though she was unsure they were even going to show up.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
