Did not walk yesterday in deference to the new puppy sleeping next to me. We decided to change her name from Blackie to Sombra (shadow or shade)....
I spent most of Sunday working on photos while Cristina went to fiesta in BugaLaGrande with a bunch of gals that she worked with at Colombina.
I got word from my FaceBook friend, Ned Meisner, that they would stop here Monday afternoon..
This morning, I broke away from Sombra and took the regular 3 dogs for a walk at 4am (Rocas often is lazily absent).
I had more contact with Ned and his rising companion Maurizio as the day unfolded. Booking.com indicated that our local hotel was unavailable today so we started checking in Tulua and came up with 5 options for a cheap hotel with private bathrooms, free parking and wi-fi.
Ned was leaving from the town of Honda, a 5 hour ride from here, and left his documants behind in the room, so that delayed him as the hotel sent someone to bring him his documents to save time (for a price).
We made a short supply trip to D-Uno and decided to double-check at the local hotel. They indeed had rooms available so I checked with both Ned and Maurizio to be sure they hadn't yet booked elsewhere. Then I booked and paid for 2 rooms under $10 USD each! The hotel was surprisingly nice inside and it is just over a block away. I told them that if the parking for their expensive bikes isn't satisfactory, we can put the bikes in our living room for the night.
Ned arrived around 4:30pm and we gave him fresh orange juice then went over to check out the hotel. His big bike was parked in front of our house without any problems until we retrieved it after 9pm. The hotel was more than satisfactory for the price and parking the bikes there would be safe too.
We came back home and I helped him scan and send some document needed to correct a banking problem in Cuenca. We waited until 5:45 for his friend Mauricio then went to eat at Hamburgo because Ned was starving. We sent the address to Mauricio who finally showed up an hour later after checking into the hotel himself.
We had lots of great discussions before going to check out the main square. I was expecting something to be happening there because today is a holiday, but there were just the usual amount of people milling about. We went for delicious desserts at one of the street carts as we found out more about each other. I know Ned is from Chicago and has dealt with Hearts Of Gold amongst many charities and knows many of my acquaintances in Cuenca, where he has lived now for 5 years. Maurizio had worked at Mansion Alcazar in Cuenca 3 years ago but is back living with family in Santa Marta and speaks reasonable English. They are leaving tomorrow morning after finding a place to lubricate their bike chains.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
