Sunday August 4, 2019
The day started off so beautifully with a magnificent sunrise and the mountains just glowed later in the morning.
At 7am I was at David's to join him, Irma and Wolf to watch 2 races.  The MotoGP race was first but a huge rain delay caused us to basically miss the end of the race.  There honestly wasn't much action and very few changes any way and my guy, Marc Marquez won like usual form the pole position.
Next was the Formula 1 race at 8:10am from Bruno, Czech Republic.  I had read up on the qualifying rounds from yesterday, my hated Verstappen winning the pole position, followed by the Mercedes team of Hamilton and Bottas, then my guys LeClerc and Vettel for Ferrari.
LeClerc slid off the track in qualifying and slammed into the wall backwards, but continued.  He took all the blame, like the classy kid he is,.. that is why I like him, no guile, no excuses, just an honest hard driver.
The write-up basically promised a boring race because the track has a lot of tricky turns and very little opportunity for passing, so I wasn't expecting much here either.  The race for the first turn was going to be the deciding factor they said...   We switched away from MotoGP with about 5 laps remaining and just caught the good start of the F1, Verstappen managing to keep the lead.  The top 5 stayed the same for quite a while until Bottas slipped off the pace.  It really was basically boring until about 12 laps to go when Hamilton took a huge gamble, pitting to change for faster tires for the run home...  Verstappen took the gamble that he could finish first on his rapidly wearing tires.  It didn't work.  Hamilton set lap records, gaining 2 seconds per lap to finally overtake Verstappen with 3 laps to go.  So, realizing he has lost first place, Verstappen pits for the fastest tires and drives like a demon to steal the fastest lap point from Hamilton!  Then Vettel passed his partner LeClerc on the last lap to steal the last podium spot.  Great drama at the end....
I came home, elated at the beautiful day, but my heart sank as soon as I checked on our sick dog, Cafe.  I took one look and really knew she was going to doggy heaven.  She was basically catatonic and could barely raise her head or show any movement.  I rushed Cristina and we ran to the local vet with her.  She was immediately put on an IV for hydration and given boosters of vitamins and anti-inflammatory medicines.  After 2 hours she could move her head easier but no way was she standing on her own.  Her breathing was better and the doc with the stethoscope said she was much better, but she was not strong enough for the scheduled operation Tuesday.  We were to come back tomorrow for another round of medicine, etc.  2 hours at the vet and the bill was $25.
We brought Cafe home and laid her in a cool spot but she barely moved.  I checked on her periodically as Cristina napped.  3 hours later my poor girl was relieved from her misery by a merciful God.  This poor dog has been through the hell of cancer, chemotherapy, huge breathing problems, prolapsed vagina, and copious bleeding and vomiting.  At least she died in a loving place and not in the street where we rescued her.  RIP our dear sweet Cafe.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Start

Wicked sunrise before 6am

The church steeple is in this shot

Looking though the wires down our street

A little more east towards the church

And another

6:45 am on the way out of town.  See the misty mountain...
And another towards the rising sun

The first critical turn for the MotoGP riders

My 2 favourites are 1-2 at the start

Not much rubber holding them on the track!

Nerves of steel, and great balance

Awesome riding, but Marquez won.
Lined up for the start

Then the real race to the critical first turn

Verstappen is followed by my 4 favourites

They stayed this way for much of the race

Bottas slips to the back of the pack

Teammates battle each other
Verstappen is in command

Hamilton has a brief lead as Verstappen pits

Verstappen leads again and is hopeful of climbing in points

Verstappen holds off Hamilton

Vettel pits for faster tires

These guys reach some fast speeds
Hamilton pitted, Verstappen trying to avoid pitting and losing the lead

Hamilton's gamble pays off

He has the fastest car with the best tires

Verstappen pits for fastest tires to get point for fastest lap

Vettel passes LeClerc

Hamilton is in command in his Mercedes

Verstappen keeps second place

Hamilton is a winner, no doubt about it.

These are the actual points standings this year

Verstappen, Hamilton and Vettel on the podium

Another huge win for Hamilton

This sight just broke my heart.

Another good doggy for playing in heaven.
