Monday May 9, 2022

The dreaded day arrived and we left early to go to Pereira.  The idea was to go to PriceSmart for lunch before our appointment with our Visa facilitator.  Sorry, this is the only photo I took today..

PriceSmart is like Costco with a food court

We bought just a few supplies like Polish smoked sausages, sharp cheddar cheese, and peanuts for me...

Then we had to get outside for our GPS to work and realized that my new phone did not have our facilitator's address in my map apps.  Luckily she responded to a quick email and I pasted and copied the address into Waze which refused to work, so I tried Google.  When it sent us to an unknown area I knew something was awry, realizing after that it switched Calle to Carrera, (like avenue to street)....  Anyway, I tried Waze again, and it worked, and we got to the right place, just in time for our 3pm appointment with Luz Dary.

Because Migracion was late in refusing my May 25 application for citizenship last year, past the August 1 expiry of my Visa, I am now deemed at fault and supposedly must pay a fine to be able to get a new Visa.  They have yet to give us the amount to pay, despite 3 trips to their Pereira office in the past months.

Luz had some documents ready for us to sign which we needed to take to a Notary 4 blocks away, and, of course, it decided to start raining at that time which continued until we were almost home later.  She also had her assistant go over to Migracion to plead our case which was apparently unsuccessful.

I made it very clear to Luz that I hold Migracion at least 50% responsible for this fiasco because they firstly accepted my erroneous Citizenship application online, kept ther 700,000 peso fee, and then took 3 months to reply.  I also impressed upon her how much I hated driving to Pereira with all the expense and stress involved.  She has promised to go plead our case personally tomorrow at Migracion even though she is only a facilitator and has zero pull with the Migracion personnel.  I am assuming that she will find out the amount of the fine and we will need yet another trip to Pereira just for that.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Then we headed to Roldanillo to pick up Cristina's crippled (polio) friend, Leti, to bring her to our house for an appointment in Yulua with a specialist tomorrow.

We didn't get home until 7pm and we were starving.  Those Polish smoked sausages were a quick fix...

I hope you enjoy the picture.  That was the day’s excitement.
