Monday Dec 31, 2018
Last evening, we both heard a different type of
commotion out back so we ran to investigate.
A chicken from over the wall (they roost in the trees) somehow had the
misfortune to end up in our yard and that is a big no-no with 8 dogs here. Luckily we got there in time and got out the
ladder and sent it back over the fence minus many feathers. We hoped it would communicate to the others
of its foolhardiness.
We were up at the usual time, walked the puppies,
then rushed to get ready to be out the door at 7am. Supposedly Niece Ana was leaving Baranquilla
by jet also at 7am and would land at the Cali airport around 8:30. Around 7:30 we get a call from her that she
had already landed… It turns out that
she left at 6am. It was nice of her to
contribute to the gas and tolls because she is that kind of thoughtful person.
Then, as we near Tulua, Cristina says we should
swing by Adiela’s, and Ana says we should stop in for a little coffee, so we do…. Nobody brings me a coffee. Miguel and Natalia rush out for something in
El Centro, so I unhappily twiddle my thumbs.
Then it is announced that we need to this other hospital
(which I had never heard of) to take Mom, Julia to get special meds. I look it up on WAZE and away we go. We are almost there, across the city, when
they say that I should be going to the bus terminal..??!! Why?? Oh,
Ana is going to Roldanillo….!!.. then we would go to the hospital… So we drop off Ana at the bus and find our
way to the hospital only to find that it is closed, even their pharmacy.
Since Adiela’s address always sends us in another
part of town with similar addressing, I fumble my way and almost end up back
home in Andalucia. We get back to Adiela’s
and everyone is having coffees in the kitchen while I fume in the dining room,
again with no coffee. Then Cristina
announces that I can head home alone and make myself salad for lunch, that they
are going downtown for a while. While I
am thankful to get away, I am less than thrilled at events. Cristina came home after 4pm.
While I was waiting here I decided to try to wait
out a hummingbird so I grabbed my Canon and the tripod and go out to set
up. As I am stretching out the legs a
big mango falls from the tree, about 3 feet from Turi’s head, and splits
open. This caused me to look that way
and spot something unusual in the yard.
I guess the chicken from yesterday did a lousy broadcast job because we
have a dead one on our hands. It even
seemed to have more feathers left than the one from yesterday but it was
definitely quite dead. Nature is nature,
and if you come into this yard unannounced you can expect a rude reception… What amazed me is that the dogs had not torn
it apart at all…
No hummingbird(s) made an appearance so I took shots of at least 3 different species at full zoom in the yard. Yes, they are really that bright!
Already we are hearing big bangs and poor Negrita
is not far away from our protection. It
affects the other dogs too but not near as bad as poor Negrita.
Happy New Year’s Eve everyone.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
