I fell while walking the dogs on uneven sidewalk and skinned myself a little but am OK.
I went to have breakfast with David to discuss my visa/expired cedula problem and he gave me the name of an expert in Medellin and I have been in contact with her and am already dreading the process.
Because External Affairs Colombia website allowed me to apply May 25 using my existing visa (charging a hefty fee), then disallowed that type of Visa 3 months later, has me in an unenviable position of allowing my visa to expire August 1st... Now the crooks expect me to pay a fine for overstaying my Visa, having to travel to Pereira to do so, and re-start my Visa process from scratch... I am so angry right now because they are going to want fresh documentation for everything, notarized, translated, apostilled (Canada doesn't!) less than 3 months old........ Some of that is impossible, so I am about to cry....
I love my wife and want to stay here with her. Colombia's rules and interpretations are subject to change on mere whims and arbitrarily target those of us who help enrich it by spending our pension money here. It is so darn frustrating but much easier than Ecuador in my experience.
Another anxiety attack is in the offing.
UPDATE: We have now been in contact with the woman, Luz Dary, who handled my original visa and cedula in Pereira 3 years ago, and it appears much easier to use her because she already has our old documents she can use, plus she is local in Pereira and can help us navigate the offices again. She is already fighting for us at immigration and we probably have to travel there tomorrow. I am breathing easier but am hoping that Miguel will be able to travel with us to Pereira.....
