I made it to David's by 7:15am easily to help him get set up as he is really struggling with his COPD and has to spend more time on pure oxygen from tanks and restrict any movement. I put my own self-pity on hold when I watch him bravely cope with this, knowing his end could come at any time.
I brought desserts, chicharon and a few cookies that were a big hit, and Wolf brought sandwiches as usual. We just managed to chow down before the Formula 1 race started at Monza, Italy. Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas had set the best qualifying time earlier and then also won that stupid 2nd Sprint format to take the pole in the actual race, ..but, because he is using an extra engine above the 3 allowed per season, he is shoved to the back in 19th spot, with Pierre Gasly in 20th for the same reason... So Verstappen had the pole but lost his lead early to two McLaren drivers, Ricciardo and Norris who held on for the whole race. A hearty, scary crash between the 2 top Championship contenders, Hamilton and Verstappen very early put them both out of contention. Verstappen has been held primarily to blame for the crash where his right rear tire actually touched Hamilton's helmet, saved by the "Halo" roll-bar....
The second main story was Bottas coming all the way from 19th to grab the 3rd podium position. How he wasn't named Driver Of The Day is certainly beyond me...
Then, onto the MotoGP race from Aragon, Spain.. Ducati riders, Francesco Bagnaia and Jack Miller qualified 1-2, then it was my guys Fabio Quartararo and Marc Marquez in spots 3-4. Bagnaia took the lead and kept it, while Miller faded as did Quartararo. The leaders Bagnaia and Marquez kept the lead easily and everyone was waiting for Marquez to make his patented late move to grab the lead... That is why I like Marquez so much, his aggressiveness is legendary. To pass a rider usually dives under the other rider but is then forced to exit high, and this allows the other rider to enter high and exit low and regain the lead... In the final 3 laps Marquez made SEVEN passes under Bagnaia who only immediately returned the favor. Simply great racing by 2 great riders. Joan Mir (last year's champion) came in 3rd.
Later we hope that Novak Djokovic of Serbia can be the US Open tennis champion.
Novak Djokovic is playing in the U.S. Open final for the ninth time and has never had more at stake.
The top-ranked player will complete a calendar-year Grand Slam and collect a men's-record 21st major title with a victory over No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev.
Djokovic beat Medvedev in the Australian Open final, then won the French Open and Wimbledon. He is trying to become the first man to win all four Grand Slams in the same year since Rod Laver in 1969.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
