At 5:23am, every day starts with the walk with the dogs before sunrise when there are few people about. This is not a problem because I am always watching the clock from about 3:30 on. Rocas is becoming a regular again with the group of Turi, Mariposa, Princesa and Buddy. We go by one unfinished house where people have several roosters, and I assume chickens, enclosed on the upper floors and they crow loudly constantly. We can hear the cacaphony for blocks. Most of their neighbours all have chickens too, mostly in the street, so they can't complain.
I realized how jaded I am getting with the common sights here that you would all find interesting. I heard the sound of shoveling out front so I looked out and saw a neighbour across the way getting a load of sand shoveled into his front door. There are few small vans here and almost all movement of small deliveries gets done by these horse-drawn carts. They are cheap, efficient, and hard-working. If I want a load of bricks for instance, we buy them somewhere local and contract one of these guys for delivery. I only hate being stuck behind one in traffic but this is the nature of the beast.
At 10:30 Cristina had me take her to the Huellas vet because it is apparently a holiday here. One of the Animal Park dogs that we recently had sterilized, Martin, has inflamed testicles, a trifle oversized so she was concerned. This new vet says it is a completely normal build up of fluid and that it should subside in a couple of days with the medicine Cristina proposed. She said it was 2 drops per kilo of weight of the dog, 20 drops per cm of syringe, and proceeded to give a completely wrong measurement for a 17 kilo dog... I had to correct her so we didn't overdose the dog. They all seem to be really poor at Math in this country. Then we went to the Animal Park to administer the medicine.
Then we went back across town to the cemetery for a quick visit to Christian. His grave is overgrown a bit but Cristina thought it was too warm to start clipping the flowers today. As always, the views there exhilarate me with the misty mountain background.
We stopped to see Grandma Gilma because she had been suffering from some kind of facial rash. She seemed chipper but her face was quite grey with dark circles around her eyes. Nothing stops her though, she is almost always in a good mood for conversation. Her granddaughter Angela came to ask me for confirmation of an English translation of questions they want to use in their kindergarten class. She had done everything right.
For lunch we stopped at the new restaurant around the corner for another special meal of pork cutlets, rice, french fries, salad and juice. Honestly, I could eat this meal there every day. 10,000 pesos is a whole $3 USD for the 2 meals! And it is really delicious. Just add salt and pepper (see photo).
After we got home, I looked at the rest of Igor Djokovic's website and I have to recommend that you visit it too, again. https://ijustroam.com/
He doesn't bore us with repetitive, multiple photos of one place from 20 angles. He must have so many photos but he surgically restricts each location to usually only one photo, or two. That is a good thing, or else we would be weeks looking through it. Each tab has several trips, and each trip has many photos with good explanations, whether he is biking, flying, or taking the train. His photos are really superlative. Please check it out. You will be glad that you did.
This is one of his pics from a Moab trip:
I then sent an email to Igor, telling him of my connection with his friend David, how much I thoroughly enjoyed his website, and that I truly hope to meet him when he comes to visit here.
Blogger is slow, but working today....
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
