A big 51st Happy Birthday to my son, Todd. Roll that clock around once more.
Yesterday I was just tossing and turning so I just got up at 3:30am and started my chores. I was basically done those in time to walk the dogs.
Before 7am we were on our way with Cafe to the vet John Rojas for hopefully her last chemotherapy treatment. Cafe is so happy to ride in the car that she gives us no problems at all, and she is submissive to us and the vet which makes the process simple and painless. She even got her nails clipped. One more trip in 10 days should tell us if she is over the hump or not.
We then delivered a gift bed to little Toby at his new owners'. Uusually Cristina likes to give the adopters a little thank you gift.
I spent the whole afternoon re-arranging, and re-naming my complete song list on the memory stick for the car. I eliminated a bunch of duplicates too, so now everything should just play in alphabetical title order.
This morning little Chiquitita was sticking to me like glue so I picked her up and tucked her in my t-shirt collar. She likes if there, warm and with a soothing heartbeat. She is safer there than under my feet as I blindly move around. I don't know why she looks so big in the photos...
Then we ran into Tulua to pay my first monthly 77,000 peso premium ($25 USD) for my EPS Government medical coverage. I had signed up May 14th and I had received a strange phone message saying that I am covered as of May 1.... How useless is that?? They confirmed that in writing today, whooppee.... They also take payments a month after, late, as in June 1 for May premium, so my take is that this is a legalized cash grab again. Then they said that we can use the hospital in nearby BugaLaGrande for any medical issues. I don't have a problem with that.
Then we stopped over to see David who has been diagnosed with pneumonia in one lung. His partner Irma is combatting a bout of bronchitis. David has recent severe low oxygen level issues in his blood that amaze doctors because he should not be able to do what he does. The energy level is ridiculously low. My oxygen level read at 98% today while his was 74%. He had been as low as 62% this week and spent 5 hours in hospital correcting that somewhat. Hopefully the specialist in Cali tomorrow will be able to help solve his issues and get him back to a functional state.
Since we were in the area anyway, we went to LA14 for lunch. Today the best deal for our hunger was a La Sevillana 3-meat dish that easily fed the two of us very well for under $9. The cheap price of food is one reason to stay here.
Then we did our weekly grocery run, concentrating mostly on my salad fixings for 7 or more days. Red and green cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, green apples and granadillas are my staples. Total cost for that part was about $10.50 USD.
Then we stopped at the doorway (it was sprinkling out) and each had a vanilla cone for 2,400 pesos or 73c USD at the new McDonald's ice cream booth. They only have the cone franchise here. I would sure love it if they would open up a burger joint here. Any entrepreneurs out there? A single outlet in a city of this size would make a killing. If a person got in both major shopping centers, they would be set for life.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
