This morning I was up early and it started to rain so that
precluded a walk with the dogs. Even
when the rain quit, it was pretty soggy outside so I just went in the backyard and trimmed
the chicken wire, and snipped the extra lengths on the zip ties, and cleaned up a little. When Carlos came, we adjusted a few items before
he finished off the perimeter with gravel, bricks and rocks. I certainly don’t want any new bunnies
digging their way out easily and suffering the fate of the last rabbit, poor thing.....
We took Café to the vet and yes, sadly she has a
tumor in her vagina so she will begin chemo treatments, probably tomorrow. Cafe is really such a sweet dog who loves nothing more than to be held. She is a little big for a lap dog, but I don't mind. We both benefit from it.
Across the street from the vet's, always in the hot sun, are
the poor dray horses who are hobbled and have flies all over their poor
faces. While the horses look decently
well cared for and healthy, this still seems so unfair to the poor animals.
So now, the rabbit hutch is basically complete and
Cristina is happy. Then we had a large
aluminum panel left over so I got Carlos to replace the one plastic skylight
with a new plastic panel and half with the aluminum. If we can deflect half of the heat that pours
in there it will be a blessing. We have
the plants under there and they will be fine with half the light. If that works, maybe we will do the same to
the skylight over the lavanderia. When
he was done, I asked why they had left the ugly old plastic under the aluminum
(it looks like h----)… Cristina and Carlos had decided
that it would help dissipate some of the heat from the aluminum…. Hmmmm... Time will tell… (It still looks like h---)
Then Cristina had me go help take another street
dog to the vet. This poor female had
been hit by a car, and had a badly injured leg (I could hardly look at the 1” x
3” open wound), plus it may be pregnant.
Right now, we treated the big inflammation in the leg and will bring it
back again tomorrow to remove a lot of puss from her vagina, and hopefully sterilize it next week. This dog is “owned” by a poor family who can’t
afford to look after it. I found it
amazing that this poor thing didn’t even whimper when the wound was
cleaned. Injured animals just look so helpless. The dog was carried hammock-style in blankets and it didn't make a sound.
The vet does not work for free, but at a reduced rate because of animal protection connections with Adiela,
Cristina’s sister.
While at the dog’s home location next to a soccer field
we heard that the fanciest home in that neighbourhood (a druggy area) was
subject to drug squatters and that they were forcibly removed to the street,... by whom, we are not
sure.
Cristina then wanted me to drive into Tulua in the
late afternoon to get a rabbit. I
politely refused to drive into Tulua at the afternoon rush hour…
We are finally eating some ripe mangoes from our
own tree! Delicious!
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
