Today, doing the FAFA photo gig was supposed to be roughly 9:30am there until about 6:30pm, but it worked out about 2 hours longer because of many delays.
It was a crisp 0C when I rode over although none of the puddles were iced over from the previous evening rain. I was frozen when I got there, and the first thing I had signed up for was a 2.5 hour walk in the Mill Creek Ravine 2 blocks away. I intended to go for 1/2 hour or so, just to get a few nature and group photos, but once I saw the first staircase down, and I was wearing a loaded backpack, I just said "no way Jose", and returned, figuring on joining the group that went to a painting class, but I could not find the address where they went by bus.... And, I was loocked out of all the buildings... So I went to A+W for breakfast and hot coffee to warm me up a little.
I returned to the main hall before noon only to find the hiking group playing many different games. Lunch was supposed to be at noon, but the painting group didn't return until around 12:40pm. Grrrr. That was cutting into the 1pm start for the badminton which I had signed up for. And I wasn't hungry, and I was proud that I had lost a little weight over the past week, so I skipped eating lunch.
Maybe it was a foolish thing, being so out of shape, and not having played in 56 years or so, but I stretched well beforehand and knew that I would be using muscles that had been hibernating for many years... And I completely whiffed about 3 of the first 5 attempted returns, so I was embarrassed early..!! But it got better as I became accustomed to the racket (it did not have a hole in it like I had thought...) and I had fun, only crashing into a wall and ending up on the floor once... Then I helped a lot of the other courts with the rules, positioning and scoring. In the end I was glad that I did it, but Tylenol will be my friend tonight for sure...
Then the floor curling people had way more time than us badminton folks had... I did not sign up for the curling because I do not bend well, and, overall, I am thankful that I did not wreck myself further.
Then it was a ridiculously long wait for a banquet supper but the chamber music and the quality of the food made the wait worthwhile. And they forced me to take home some tender beef and gravy.... Yes, they actually forced me... I did not resist much.. Lunch tomorrow will be awesome.
I did not get as cold on the ride home, but the Gio definitely informed me how much its batteries do not like the cold weather! That is stored in my memory bank... No long rides in the winter!
I hope you enjoy the few pictures I have chosen. That was the day’s excitement.
