Last night at 7pm we finally had the visit from Ana who was spending the night.  At 9pm her twin sister Lina came over with another rescue dog, a mini-pinscher, that had been hit by a motorbike and had problems with her right hip.  The dog was also in heat so we administered some pain medicine.  At 10pm Lina’s friend came by with the owner but it was decided to leave the dog here until the morning so that there would be more comfortable transport direct to the veterinarian.  While the tiny dog looks like a baby, apparently it is 5 years old.  It slept well all night.

This morning at 8am Cristina and Ana went to get Ana a new cedula.  The old one must have been worn out.  They needed photos, etc but there was a big delay for those, and Ana could not wait.  She needs to catch a flight home this afternoon.
At 8:30am the owner returned to get his dog and the poor thing was squealing when being handled.  Presumably he took it to the vet but, since they can’t get x-rays here, they brought it back as Cristina volunteered us to bring it to Tulua for x-rays.
We dropped off Ana at Adiela’s and had to wait while Adiela went to get another dog that also needed x-rays.  An hour later Adiela returns empty-handed, and we follow her to the animal x-ray place where we are later met by the other couple with the other dog.  In the waiting room is a girl who works at our vet’s office in Andalucia with a huge German Shepherd with a painful broken front left foot, poor thing!
We waited an hour for our turn then another hour for results.  Our dog has a fracture which may heal if it is rested properly or the owner can pay about $700 for an operation…  You know what he is going to pick.
We went and picked up Ana’s photos then went to the Registry office so they could glue the photos to her application.  I assume she has to wait at least a week to get new cedula.

Then I put the two rabbits in a small dog crate and went to the wrong vet first, then secondly to the right rabbit vet just 2 blocks away.  Since it is now Cristina’s brilliant idea (I proposed this 3 weeks ago) we got the rabbits injected to eliminate their mange.  The cost was $2.
We had bought separate new water and pellet self-filling dishes and that is a Godsend for us in the ease of maintenance every day.
I then ran alone over to Gilma’s, waking her up from her siesta, darn it, to pick up the pail of dog food..
When I got home, a whole family of new possible dog owners from Tulua was in the house.  At least they had the honesty to say that it wasn’t their dog.
For some reason Cristina says she didn’t believe the original guy was the owner and that she had called the police to sort it out… WTF???  I usually find Colombian thinking and practices on the odd side but this was really off the wall.
That one family left and the original owner showed up with his friends again.  Lorena, who has lost her voice, came to the door, stayed 5 minutes and left her dog here.  My head was just spinning already and I had no idea what was happening.  I just stayed out of it.  Finally the guy and his family left with the dog after medication instructions from Cristina.  Whew!
In the Twilight Zone department, again,.. remember I downloaded a few old books and, for some strange reason, I decided to start to read “The Prince” by Niccolò Machiavelli.  Today I sold on RedBubble a poster of… Guess Who, from a photo of his statue that I took in Florence…
I am pooped.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

These tiny dogs are just so fragile
It is so easy to fall in love with these desperate little ones

Waiting our turn

Our poor dogs are locked outside when we go out

They do have the run of the lavanderia and our bedroom

Hopefully Bugs and Bunny will be cured soon.
