It is such a delight to have some canine companionship here at Teresa and Billy's. When little 17-year-old Spike comes to join me while I am working I am so thankful for the love he brings. Lucy can also be quite friendly, while Maizie is a little more aloof.
Oswaldo picked up Dawn and I at 12:45 because he had made reservations at the Restaurant operating in the lower floors of the 300-400 year-old Todos Santos church. A hummingbird outside the window was entertaining. We had a lovely lunch with soup, a small healthy entree and dessert. Dawn and I were completely shocked that the bill was only $17.50 USD for the 3 of us. Besides selling baking products, there was a lot of local art for sale in the entryway.
From there we began exploring downtown Cuenca, making our way over to Gustavo's patrimonial home that he is renovating as allowed by awful municipal ordinances regarding historical homes in El Centro. Unfortunately he was away with MaryAnn at her Paute farm.
We explored the lovely San Blas square and worked our way to the Rotary market and continued west towards the center of town.
The whole way we were on the lookout for a bright green blouse or sweater that Dawn wanted to gift to an indigenous friend in Canada. We finally found what Dawn was looking for.
Then we caught a bus east to my old neighborhood, the Bosque (Forest) de Monay, enjoyed the views and the Tomebamba river before catching a bus up to the Municipal Cemetery. We had both been there beforeand I certainly had my favourite statues and gravesites to photograph.
We caught a bus back home, keeping a lookout for a bakery with bread to make sandwiches with the leftover roast beef which was making me salivate! I spotted one near the Jefferson Perez Stadium (the only Ecuadorian Olympic gold medallist, for speed-walking). The place had no bread, but they had good buns and banana bread so I was happy.
The sandwiches were awesome and we also finally finished off the chili which lasted 5 meals for 4 people!
We had an Owl Butterfly on the floor of the casita which did not seem to want to move. Later he moved by the wall, and even later I moved it back outside. I was very careful and hopefully did no harm to it...
So, it was a great day, very tiring, but rewarding, capped off with a Cuba Libre (rum and coke) before bedtime.....
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
