Monday December 16, 2024

Today was a calm down day and a time for planning and reflection.  Many of our plans for this week were amended and fine-tuned.

That leftover chili sauce mistake from yesterday was put to good use, augmented, and resulted in a roasterfull of delicious chili that will be good for at least 3 meals for the 4 of us!  That was lunch and supper for all of us today thanks to Dawn's cooking skills.

The day was sunny and warm so Billy headed downtown for a walk, Dawn continued her suntanning, and I took Teresa out on the Pixels electric bike for initial training.

Teaching a small lady to ride an unfamiliar, larger, heavier bike is not as easy as initially thought.  Besides the placement of body, hands and feet, there are the many awareness issues of mirrors, hazards and traffic behind,.... and much more.  Controlling the throttle at slow speed while trying a tight turn is especially tricky, and controlling surprise panic caused by sudden proximity of traffic behind you is something that will take time.

Small issues, like exiting the house gate will definitiely need separate calm training to avoid shooting out into traffic by accident to cause a serious accident.  We want the ownership of the Pixels to be a very enjoyable experience, not a dangerous one.

In the evening, after our chili meal, we relaxed and discussed the thorny political issues of the day in our particular countries where things could get heated and complicated in a hurry with the inauguration of the Orange Menace again.  And, there was much political activity in Canada that could potentially trigger an election, which we all hope for, after the Trudeau Government has admitted to raising our deficit this year by 50%!!!!!!  Grrrr

Below is a photo of the other half of the 2 dozen roses for $8 USD located in our casita.  Most Canadians do not realize that almost every rose they buy at the flower shops actually come from Ecuador.  I have been to a rose farm in Paute to see the whole process and the different varieties and colours grown.  It was a shock to see that they actually grown around 8 feet tall, and you can see how full the heads of the roses are initially...  By the time they hit the North American consumer, the stems and outer petals have been severely trimmed away.  Here, the roses will last at least 2 weeks in the vase!

I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
