After chores, I jumped on the Pixels eBike and headed east to my old neighbourhood again, refamiliarizing myself with the roads. My main goal was to find an old friend, Segundo, whose family owned a roast chicken restaurant. Unfortunately, he was not around, but I did talk briefly to one of the daughters.
On the way, I met Gustavo at El Vergel as he was delivering to me my new sport jacket that he kindly had pressed by a friend. Since I don't really have any nice clothes, I really needed this addition to the wardrobe. I had my Nikon in the rear secure case but never stopped to pull it out.
Then I took different roads back, continuing on to San Joaquin to the west to try again to find my friend Marco, again with no luck. Then I had our common friend, Graciela, contact him and put us in touch. It turns out that the big house is rented out and that he is working over the holidays, so we will have to get together later.
The calendar for visits with other old friends is beginning to fill up nicely.
I had a short nap then, and got ready for yet another Saturday evening meal at Joes' Secret Garden. I was slated to sit down with the "original" Joe, Joe Spotts, now in Memphis, and his friend Ersin Abad from Turkey. I had invited along Rocio Leon, a very nice lady that I had met on the bus in from Guayaquil. Her Birthday is Monday, so I had asked Joes' staff to do a little celebration and they did not disappoint, ...and the BBQ meal was excellent as always.
The first thing I managed to do was spill red wine on my pullover sweater, ... big klutz that I am, ...so I was doubly glad for the new jacket to cover my embarrassment.
Joe and I had many reminiscences and catching up to do. Joe is such a great storyteller and his food got cold as he kept us laughing with his stories.
Again, all in all, it was another great evening at Joes'.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
