David drove here from Tulua and picked us up at 9:30am for out long-planned trip to PriceSmart (read Costco) in Cali.  We had expected that traveling at that hour we would miss most of the traffic... wrong!  And every idiot was on the road, whether they had a licence or not, and all in the wrong lane or going 1/2 the speed limit.
Our intention was to go to the big PriceSmart (according to our brother-in-law Miguel) on the other side of the city.  We pulled up at a store and went in, had a bite, and I got a free 2nd membership card off of Dave's.  It was then that I realized that this store was the small one and had limited stock.
So we jumped in the car again, I navigated with Google Maps, and we spent 45 minutes going way across town in horrible traffic to get to the "big" store.  There literally is no way to bypass Cali and come in from the other end.  And it turns out that the trip was all for nought because this "big" store was exactly the same size as the other one, and also the one in Pereira.  Bummer...
We figured that we may as well make use the opportunity and grabbed a few items that are definitely a savings, especially paper products like TP, Kleenex and napkins.  We loaded up on that and picked up a few more things like vitamins, peanuts, coffee, sea salt, lentils, microwave popcorn and granola bars.
Then we had to re-trace our route all the way through Cali again about 2:30, aftre their lunch break, so traffic was marginally better, and also on the highway it was much better.  By and large, by the time we pay gas and the $20 in tolls, it really doesn't turn out to be very worth it.
Part of the trouble about highway travel in this area are the sugar cane truck trains, and some are up to 6 trailers long.  Not only do they tie up a lot of space, but they drive at a snail's pace.  Patience is a virtue they say (one that I do not possess in great amounts).
I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.

Both PriceSmarts had the same layouts, just reversed..

Unusual to see open space while driving in Cali

These sugar cane "trains" take a lot of space and drive so slow

This one only had 4 trailers.
