I meant to post the next shocking bit of news a couple of days ago but it got missed:
The headline reads: "Correa: The Galapagos will be the guarantee of the debt to China". I did not know about this until now or else I may have been more forceful against this demagogue. There was a great article in our Cuenca Highlife blog this past week about how Correa did wonderful things in his first term while oil prices were high, but how he turned into a silly bully in his second term. Simply to thumb his nose at the Americans he borrowed money at exhorbitant interest rates from the Communist Chinese.... and now he has mortgaged the incredible Galapagos Islands to China to pay for his folly. I find it mind-boggling how this staunchly Roman Catholic country could allow this to occur. He has left Ecuador in overbearing debt and snipes at his successor who tells the truth about this debt. I have a list that I dare not publish (until I can prove its veracity) which shows the millions in bribes taken by ranking members of Correa's government (with Rafael himself way atop the heap). It is laughable common knowledge here that people enter politics solely to line their pockets. That is the only way this former teacher could become a millionaire living in Europe.
His Vice-President Jorge Glas is finally being indicted on corruption charges, protesting his innocence in the face of damning evidence. The dominoes will start to fall and this government will end up with most of its politicians in jail. Sickening, ...to anyone who knows anything. They doth protest too much... It saddens me that the current President is also on this list, but for a comparably tiny amount. Stay tuned.

Well, while I certainly hate to admit it, returning to the Gabapent twice a day seems to be helping. I have also been wearing my tennis elbow braces and that has helped regain a lot of feeling in the arms. Tomorrow morning is the group meeting with doctors so I have no idea what to expect. It will be good to have Oswaldo along to interpret.
Lots of strange happenings to good friends which has been very upsetting for them and also for us because we can't help much except to be a sounding board and offer support and advice. So many people are getting crosses to bear....
It was a nice day so I wanted so very much to get out, but again my usual riding companions were unavailable. Then Cristina surprisingly agreed to ride to Ucubamba with me, as long as I rode slowly, to visit Bella and Sully, as well as their owners Mike and Lotis. So we walked our dogs for the third time and took a leisurely ride in the sunshine.
It should please everyone to know that we all solved all the world's problems in our 3-hour discussions and everyone can sleep well tonight, because everything will be normalized tomorrow. I changed my name to Peter Piper and Lotis gave me a jar of pickled peppers, not a peck, and I tried just a bit in my salad later... It's a good thing that I like hot spice.
Our fifth pup is probably feeling a little bored being mostly alone in the garage by himself. I tried letting Princesa in there with him but all she did was steal his bed. Mariposa is probably the unlikely one to want to interact with Buddy. Jack does not like the new rival so he creates a lot of friction. Buddy is such a sweet dog, ...calm, passive,... and just looking to be loved. I sure hope that we can find him a forever home soon. It is not fair to have him cooped up alone.
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day’s excitement.
Cheers, Al
