Sunday was a lazy day, waiting for the 5pm start of the Memorial Cup game between the Medicine Hat Tigers and the London Knights. Members of our extended family have always been large Tigers supporters so it was a hard game to watch as the London Knights dominated right from the opening whistle. Congrats to the Knights!
Then I was finishing another Jack Reacher novel with an old movie in the background around 12:15 this morning when I remembered that there was supposed to be strong solar flare activity after 11pm yesterday which usually triggers strong Aurora Borealis... I glanced out the window and saw basically clear skies so I dressed, grabbed both cameras, a tripod and a monopod, jumped in the Regal and headed East.
I kept looking skyward but was not seeing any Northern Lights,.. not even a hint of them which the camera is usually good at finding.... I decided not to stray too far and just went up Clover Bar Road where they are now building townhomes on top of the old garbage dump. It was dark enough and I was hoping to shoot the Aurora above the City.
In all, I took 39 shots and kept only the 8 below.... No Aurora at all. But the moon mode at 3000mm zoom on the new Nikon P1100 was as good as advertised. I love the moon shots....
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
