I had been invited long ago to come for lunch to Mike & Lotis' place in Challuabamba, so long so that I had forgotten that the occasion was for Mike's 64th Birthday, 361 days younger than me. It is a good thing that I brought along a few beer at least...
They have this gorgeous home, all outfitted in classy North American style, and a great back yard, awesome for entertaining guests. They had an amazing spread of food, probably 30 different dishes, for an assortment of guests that they had invited, the majority Ecuadorian.
One of the guests seemed familiar and, as soon as someone asked him about being a former realtor, the lightbulb went on... Juan was the first person we met upon landing in Cuenca Nov 2/2011. Our plane was hours late and he was waiting there with 2 cars to carry us with our 4 large suitcases, 2 backpacks and 2 cats. He was the realtor who had arranged our first rental in Cuenca off of Paseo De Los Canaris. He is now teaching English (raised in Toronto) at the Wall Street campus. What a nice man he still is, and he had a very lovely young lady with him.
Much food, talk, and yummy cake helped complete the afternoon. Thank you Mike and Lotis for including me in your celebration.
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day's excitement, Cheers, Al
