MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
No snow, no presents, no tree, and nobody to share, so it is very hard to celebrate Christmas here, but we try...
With a joint invitation from Mark & Karen (who are very dear Canadian friends with big hearts) and their Australian neighbours, John and Sharon, we had a huge pot luck supper at John & Sharon's.  Everybody brought a dish of something and I was tasked with bringing tourtieres (French-Canadian meat pies) that I had made at the Black Olive Bistro.
John is a master turkey chef on the bar-b and this turkey was more moist than a chicken, simply delicious.  I brought too much and there was lots of left-over food.  Unfortunately Karen left early with an upset tummy.   We all ate too much and certainly didn't need to top it off with those decadent desserts.  Mark and Karen are masters at supplying mulled wine, although I contented myself with the non-alcoholic batch.
Cuenca seem to celebrate Christmas Eve more than Christmas Day because there were workmen in evidence everywhere, from digging up across the street, to garbage pickers and all those folks washing clothes in the river.  And yet, the sports fields were empty today, very strange.
Some kids from the clothes washers came over and tried begging for Xmas goodies, usually bags of cookies and candies but nobody was prepared for that.
Anyway, a nice assortment of people to schmooze with for an evening.
Two couple were stressing over being able to get a cab home so I offered to drive them home and they were very grateful.   On the way, the one fellow asked what state I was from,.. so I said Alberta, Canada.  He said, "Oh, I was just talking to good friends from a small town called Okotoks, do you know it??"... and of course I started to laugh and told him that that was where I was from!!  He had been there and had even been to a Calgary Stampeder game in one of the owners' boxes and met former Calgary Flame Perry Berezan.  Small world, EH??  But it turns out I didn't know his friend Don Wilson from Okotoks.  Anyway, it was good for a laugh.
I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al
