For 3 years now, the Chamber Of Commerce hosted an Expat Day in their building.  This year they made it only for Chamber members which really cut down on the attendance.  There were maybe 20 Expats there and we were way outnumbered by the advertisers, staff and entertainment.
They tend to treat this as a way to get Ecuadorians to sell us something and provide some entertainment as well, music, dancing, a raffle draw, etc.  The dancing was particularly good this year with a group called Yawarkanchik.  Their card says that they dance Kichwa, Mestiza and Afro.
One fellow was serving wine and dropped a full glass at the edge of the dance floor where the barefoot dancers were performing.  I was up quickly to kick shards of glass off of the floor before the staff came with mops and brooms to clean up.  Luckily nobody was injured.
They served humitas and coffee, neither of which interest me so I sat next to the Mexican restaurant people who had nacho-style chips aplenty.
My friends from Toronto, Michael and Susan, were lucky in the raffle, each winning a prize.
They finished up with the police band whose music all sounds the same, play three bars and repeat.  Unfortunately, if they do a similar format for next year, I will not bother to attend.
I am squeezing in a couple of pics from Saturday morning because I will probably have another post tonight.  I got up early with the intention of getting my car washed.  $12 fo a complete clean, vacuum, engine wash, etc.  Then one guy offered to polish the car for $5.  I showed him a few scrapes polish out and he said they were complimentary.  Then he found a few more....   He worked long and hard so at the end I handed him a $10 and he was asking for $21...   We sawed off at $20.
While you are getting a car wash there are all these street guys that come around to sell mouldings, windshield wipers, steering wheel covers, CD's and movies.  I decided to get all 4 wheel wells done with chrome-looking mouldings for $30, after refusing the first price of $39.  It really looks good with the chrome door handles.  So, $62 later, I have a pretty nice-looking car.   It should be good for another few months.
Hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al
