This morning we grabbed our Rocas and went to pick up Chocolate at the Animal Park to take them to Dr John for sterilization.  Rocas had survived all the chemo treatments apparently well enough to withstand surgery.
Then we stopped at Adiela and Miguel's to pick up Cristina's sewing machine that Adiela has been using for about 3 months to fix clothes and make bandanas for adopted dogs.  I spent some time yakking with Miguel and, when we finally did leave, it was without the sewing machine because Adiela needed it today yet.
We decided to stop for lunch at Vollkorn, the German restaurant of Berthold & Zenaida, and we had the German sausage meal with their special tomato sauce, and coffee.  That was a nice treat for all our work.
We gassed up on the way back into town and went to pick up the 3 pairs of runners at the shoemaker.   This guy is only good in a pinch because his work does leave a lot to be desired.
We received word that a relative in Cali named Antonio (whom they hadn't seen since their youth) had passed away this morning and the funeral will be tomorrow in Cali.  You have 3 guesses who gets to be the taxi service for the family.
I filled all the hummingbird feeders because they were running on fumes.
Cristina pulled down some more oranges so I had 56 to wash clean, slice and juice.  That is a lot of work for 4 litres of juice, but it sure is good and satisfying.
We were waiting for the vet to call that the dogs were ready and that wasn't forthcoming, despite a message to him.  So about 4:30 we went to Adiela's again for the sewing machine then went to the vet's.  Just like yesterday, one dog, Chocolate, was done, and the other, Rocas, was in surgery yet.  We could hear some unhappy sounds from the vet which was really unusual.  When the vet came out, the news wasn't good.  Chocolate has petechia, a skin hemmorhage condition.  Our poor Rocas, who shows no outward symptoms, had a bunch more tumors removed with the ovaries and John suspects she has many more... poor thing...  He had operated on her for 2.5 hours and she lost a lot of blood...  He showed us the tumors he removed.
The total bill for both dogs was 200,000 pesos, or a whole $58.34 USD at today's exchange.  I am sure the bill would have been 10 times that amount in Canada.
We got Chocolate settled in her bed next to the food at the Animal Park and came home to our poor dogs in the dark...  I always hate getting back late for that very reason.
Rocas ate a full meal of livers for strength when she shook off the anesthetic which was a great sign, although she is still losing a little blood.
So, originally the plan was to leave around 6am for Cali in the morning but now that has been moved to 9am with the funeral at 1pm.  They want to spend some time with the family.  I wish that I had a book to bring along..
I hope you enjoy the pictures.  That was the day’s excitement.
