I did a quick trip on Buzzer to the 12 de Abril mercado for Cristina.  She wanted some leaves for Tamales, some Manzanilla and some pears.  The Manzanilla is a local plant that you boil and the juice is a cure-all for many ailments.  I think it is considered a noxious weed in Canada.  I also picked up a supply of doggy-do bags.   At 50c/100 they are a bargain here.
Then I had a very long nap.  My recent changes in medication and lifestyle seem to be helping.  In the morning I feel much better than before.
I am tacking on here a Saturday morning visit to Gustavo's metal mechanic, Fernando, who is apparently thinking of a move to Canada for a while.  He doesn't speak a lick of English but apparently his lovely wife does.  He wants to work and make some good money and he could certainly jump into any muffler shop and do very well.  He is a perfectionist and takes pride in doing a superlative job.  It doesn't hurt that he has fist-class equipment and tools to work with.
Our project today was to devise a way to protect shoes from the exhaust pipe which gets very hot and has melted the heels of Cristina's boots and Dawn's runners.  The mechanic at MultiMotos swears that the 2017 Fatty 175cc did not come with a guard.  I was certain that it did have one and I just found the photo of the bike I bought, and guess what,... it does have the guard...
Anyway, I don't know how I lost the guard and the Multimotos mechanic didn't want to order me a replacement so I had Fernando make me one.  The original intention was to make a new exhaust pipe, bend it under the motor and back up to the rear while avoiding blocking the oil filler and to try to use the existing support bracket.  The more I looked at it, I sawe way too many problems with that.  So I suggested just making another guard that could rest on the rear tiny footrest and connect to an existing bolt...  So they got a piece of cardboard and started cutting and bending it to a usable shape.  Gustavo thought that it would still get too hot from the exhaust pipe but the mechanic said no,  In the end, they went with my idea and transferred the design to metal, cut it with a plasma cutter, drilled a bolt hole, ground it smooth then took it to another place for bending.  We checked that it fit, painted it and installed it...  He wanted only $15 for the work but I paid him $20.
Update:  I sent an email with the top photo to MultiMotos advising them of the situation, and that I will no longer refer anyone to their company and that bad news travels faster than good news...
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day’s excitement.
Cheers, Al

This is the MultiMotos mechanic holding my new bike with the protector

This is what it looks like broken off.  Don't know when it happened.

The design is transferred to the metal

Accurate cutting with a plasma cutter

I was amazed how clean the cut was

A person could hardly do better with a grinder

Grinding the edges smooth and rounded

This man takes a lot of pride in his work

Not many fellows have his work ethic

He even bevelled the bolt hole

Checking for a perfect fit

Final check when bolted on

Then installed after painting

Beautiful finished product!
