HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to my lovely bride of 5 years ago. We have been through a lot of hardships but we have always had each others' back and we plow through adversity. I love you.
Yesterday I spent the day working on a new series of Elvis pics to sell. Elvis has been very good for me.
Today, the big Golden Silk Spider decide to get brave and try to spin its web almost at eye level... I spotted it just in time. That earned it a new home outside in the mango tree.
The neighbour has finally begun making his second storey on his structure out back. So far I don't see any provision for windows overlooking our yard.
I am not seeing Tom Thumb at all, mind you I am not sitting out there watching.
A rare sight today as I caught 8 of our dogs outside at once, relaxing in the sun or shade. Then I got the other 3. Our Bebe, my "little shit", will probably be going into Tulua tomorrow for adoption. The fellow here that wanted to adopt her is unreliable and has no other dogs to keep Bebe occupied so I didn't want her to go there.
Before going in for a special lunch, we tried to find someone to fix our broken roller on the garage door. First we went to the guys that did our bathroom door and they referred us to another down the street who was closed. Cristina remembered another not far away and we happened to run into her ex, Carlos next door and he waved off this guy. He gave us the card of another man and we tried to find his place without success. The address put us in a field... We would call him when we got back.
For a nice Anniversary lunch, Cristina had suggested a return to Mr. Chuleta, close to where we used to live in Tulua, next to Lago Chilicote. They serve huge plates of thin pork cutlets with rice, fries and tomatoes. It was a weekday, a small clientele, so our order came very quickly. We have waited over an hour on weekends, they get so busy. Our 16" plate feeds 2-3 people, closer to 3... With drinks, it was 28,000 pesos or $7.31 USD total for a real treat of a meal. And we brought some home for the dogs. We are both cheap dates.... lol.
We came home to find that someone (probably me) left the bathroom faucet running the whole time we were gone. The only saving grace is that the tap is barely better than a trickle there, but I am sure it would have been a fair amount of water over 2 hours wasted.
We called Carlos' door repair guy around 2 and he came around 4pm. I was immediately impressed because he actually came with all the tools needed for the repair, including a portable welder, all on an 80cc scooter... We supplied a couple of things to help, lent a hand, and I refused to let him undo one of the door panels unnecessarily. He welded the roller and the darn thing stayed hot for a lo-o-o-ong time. Anyway, we did get the roller re-installed and everything works fine again. He confirmed that all the others are in good condition. The bill was 70,000 pesos or $18.26 USD.
I know that the prices I quote amaze a lot of you. Most things are really dirt cheap here, like 3 new t-shirts for Cristina for 34,000 pesos or $8.87 USD. This is how we can live comfortably on my puny Canadian pension. This is how we can look after 10 rescued dogs and foster puppies and kittens. Our home, is nice, and safe, but not fancy, or straight. Gasoline is probably the most expensive thing here at 7800 pesos or $2.03 a US gallon. The saving grace is that we don't pay for heat and rarely use the AC in the bedroom.
Have a safe October.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
