The evening was not looking good when winds and clouds started swirling in every direction with thunder and lightning at all edges of town, particularly to the South.  However, after much posturing and dramatic skies, we only got a few drops, but it did cool things down nicely.
A flyer was stuck under the door to tell us about the "IX Festival De Bailes Tradicionales" was to occur at 8pm in the main square.  The folk dance festival included entrants from here, Cali, and also Peru and Argentina.
We got there at 8pm and got front-row seats, and then sat for an hour and a half until it really started.
The group from here was young, energetic, and the true highlight.  The couple from Cali put on a spirited performance and the bunch from Peru were all smiles and professional.  The older bunch from Argentina put on a good show, especially when they did a Riverdance style act.
I was up until 2am selecting and processing from the many, many photos for you.

I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

Watching the sky carefully, but nothing was rolling

This child was supervising a neighbour securing a tin roof

The crowd kept growing until the main park was full

The couple from Cali were striking

This mini-Cristina captured my heart

The local group put on a fantastic show

Every group had some inventive props

My little sweetheart

Colourful swirling fun

Concentration and luminescent flowers

They performed for a long time

One of the Argentine couples

The gal from Cali

Only this couple represented Cali

Good, strong performance

They worked very hard

Black and white

Those big skirts/dresses get a workout

The men get almost forgotten amidst all that tafetta

Peru had a strong contingent, always smiling

This gal was their prime "soloist" and danced a lot

All were a an immense pleasure to watch

Pretty ladies

Traditional costumes

Performing just for us

That is a lot of cloth to drag around...

Argentina is different

What a great little performer!

These kids give it their all

Difficult to shoot such motion at night

Talented young dancers

Talented older dancers too

Great facial expressions and shouting

Argentinian-style Riverdance

Hats and skirts aflurry

Great to watch

Until next year....
