I will update this posting later as there is to be a lot more family action today as we go into Tulua.
However, there is a National Volleyball Championship going on today, and tomorrow, down the street so I went to kill some time while Cristina and Cristiaan were working. I caught the second set of a couple of teams then was pleased to see that Andalucia was playing next, in pale blue and white uniforms. They were considerably taller than the opposition so their spiking ability was deadly, however the other team gave them a good run 21-15 and 21-14. I am pretty certain that I will return tomorrow for semi-finals and finals, etc.
Sorry, but somehow Google has managed to foul up the order of my shots... not that it really critical... I apologize again for the rushed batch editing that I did due to time constraints, but actually I think these came out pretty darn good.
I have always enjoyed volleyball and wallyball as sports even though my vertical jump is laughable. I was always the setter and it is a pleasure to watch these guys get way in the air and just hammer that ball.
I note that this was regular volleyball, with normal height net, not at all like the Ecuadorian volleyball.
OK, it is now late evening and we have returned.
Miguel, Julia, Cristina and I went by car, while Adiela & Natalia went by scooter, to a town called Rio Frio ("Cold River" because the local river flows from the colder mountains).Miguel explained that the town is a renowned weekend getaway for 2 reasons, the great Colombian typical food in the main square, and to swim in the river. We partook of the first and were spectators for the second. Everybody ate huge helpings and this time I was allowed to pay the bill, happily, because of the fine way this extended family has treated me so royally. The Colombian food is 10 times better than the bland, boring fare in Ecuador. This food has flavour and flair, and today, the ribs were to die for. I was so stuffed, and Cristina ate like she hadn't eaten for a month. She was bringing a doggy bag and ended up feeding a street doggy with it. She has such a heart for dogs of all kinds.
After the meal we went to the swimming spot and beyond, enjoying the great views in the foothills of the mountains.
