The main purpose of the day was to take a trip to nearby Roldanillo where Cristina spent the first 40 years of her life with her family before they all moved to the Tulua area.
Her son, Cristiaan, took us in shifts on his motorcycle to the highway where we could catch a microbus. They manage to pack in as many people as they can seat and I felt sorry for the mother ahead of me with 2 kids, bags, and a kite in the space of one seat. For some reason we had caught a bus that did not go all the way and we reached a town where we had to wait for a passing military parade before getting off and walking to another area to catch another microbus to our destination.
Naturally Cristina knows the town well and I was given a short tour of a couple of parks and churches before we popped in unannounced to visit her best friend Leticia and hubby Oscar. The two of them are handicapped below the waist but that does not stop them from anything and they are supremely pleasant people. It must have been a day for visits because about 6 other people dropped in for different stretches and there was a lot of good-natured joking around. One fellow named Henry spoke pretty decent English and a smattering of French, obviously a world traveler. I took a lot of good-natured ribbing for only understanding 1/4 of what was said and almost falling asleep watching 2 successive Pirates Of The Caribbean movies.
The weather was starting to look threatening and I was surprised to hear that Cristina's sister Adiela and hubby Miguel, with daughter Natalia, were coming to pick us up and take us home. They had been in the area to celebrate Miguel's upcoming 62nd birthday with their other daughter Ana Maria.
I offered to buy supper but they were still stuffed from a late lunch so we just stopped in Andalucia and picked up some beer. The heavens had opened and I got soaked running in and out of the store. We got back home and enjoyed a few laughs as they looked at some of my photography work, particularly of Tom Thumb. I think that their hummingbirds will get a lot more attention from them now.
I was really thankful for the rain because it cooled things down and I had a good sleep. It is a double-edged sword though as the next morning is muggy because of all the moisture.
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day's excitement, Cheers, Al
