This is the first of a possible 3 Blogs for today, if things go as planned.
I could have gone with Ghyslaine to today's FAFA soccer (futbol) for the old folks because she was coming to play. But, I decided to take the Gio so I would have a seat and a roof for some shade. It was a brilliant decision for those reasons alone, and also because Ghyslaine was her usual 45 minutes late....
I helped set up the soccer nets and gave kids rides on the Gio to kill time while they got organized.
They had an experienced soccer player lead the group in stretches and calisthenics, then passing and shooting instruction. It seemed to take forever before any game actually started. Once they started the second half, both sides began to play much more cohesively and with some spirited play. The organizers also played, Sidika and her husband, Auxanne, and Charlotte. They showed true youth energy and skill.
So it was hot in the sun but they had a ton of fun and laughs.
During the photo sessions later, some big guy came from nowhere and was ordering people around and blocking my shots several times. I finally told him point-blank that I was the official photographer and to take his shot and move out of the way... He took official umbrage at my officious tone and started demanding that I treat him with respect! I just stared him down and told him to take his shot... He finally got out of my way. Shortly, he wandered away to another game and Sidika said she thought he was the head of some refugee organization ....
More action to come today.... Probable more blog(s).
