Sunday April 10, 2016
It wasn't the greatest day for a moto ride, cloudy and threatening most of the day, but Jeff VP and I decided to venture to Cojitambo and the Canari/Inca ruins.  Since I had been there many times, and knew the route, I was pushed into the lead.
I always enjoy going to Cojitambo because of the awesome 360 degree views, looking over Cojitambo town, Azogues, Biblian and even a part of Cuenca.  There were quite a few people enjoying the Sunday morning, even some folks doing a photo shoot.
I even decided to do a short video of the cliff face and the magnificent views:

It was lunchtime on the way back so we pulled into the pizza place near the Fybeca in Challuabamba.  The owner was in Milan, Italy for 10 years and he still works the dough like the old days.  Then he puts it in the wood-fired bread oven and the pizza is ready and delicious in no time at all.  Top that off with a Club beer and it was a great meal.  The restaurant also has great wood furniture and lots of art and photos on the wall to complement the great pizzas.
We spotted some action off the Autopista at the Honda track where there was some motocross events happening.  It was worth a quick stop.
I hope you enjoy the photos.  That was the day's excitement,   Cheers, Al

The sign on the highway where we start up

Some lovely country living on the way

The top is our destination

It looks very pointy from the south

A little tighter capture

Some interesting buildings on the way

Couldn't resist the shot with the cow in the foreground

It doesn't look so pointy from the east side

We keep going and it is right in our face

The town of Cojitambo (take the road behind the church)

Love the views on the way up

Jeff getting a few snaps of the views too

Slowly climbing to 9,500 feet

I would live to live out here in the greenery

Looking back towards a church that we passed

The Canari ruins from 500 BC, then the Incas took over

This stone staircase must be awfully old

Climbing up, looking down at the ruins

What an awesome vista towards Cuenca

Toxic is enjoying the view as well

That is our destination....

Another view into the surviving roofless Inca building

From the summit, a view over the town of Cojitambo to Azogues

This cliff face is daunting

Looking back over the ruins towards Cuenca

And again

OK, and again...

A bad shot of Biblian

Azogues, with the statue of the Virgin on the mountaintop

Cojitambo and Azogues

A zoom in on the Virgin

A photo shoot on the cliff's edge

Jeff is checking out the drop

Then it is my turn.....  Vertigo kicks in...

Apparently the cliffs are open to rock climbers

Somebody else can try that....

Last shot of the ruins from below

Ok, I lied, here's another

This sign says this settlement is pretty darn old...

Working on a Sunday

Our pizza being made to order

Some of the neat art on the premises

and a photo of Elvis

Don't think that I have ever seen this one of the Beatles before

Classic Marilyn

The wood-fired bread oven makes short work of the pizza

Highly recommend the pizza here

Motocross happening at the Honda track

A lot of jumps on each lap

Getting good air to make distance faster

This is quite a facility...

He is up pretty high

This fellow is launched pretty good too
