Before I sell my car I figured I had better make use of it. Once Cristina arrived, we picked up Lotis and Mike and headed to SigSig, wher none of us had ever been before. The GPS took us through Paute, Gualaceo and Chordeleg first, but the trip was under an hour and on very good roads.
Sig Sig was a nice little town, very much like Gualaceo and their specialty seems to be making Panama Hats and we saw several ladies with the straw in progress.
We found one church square rather quickly and the sunshine was cooperating. We could see the spire of another, more modern church a few blocks away so we took a walk there. The bust in front of the church is for Cacique Duma, Chief of the Canari Confederation, who were conquered by the Incas, then sided with the Spanish to get rid of the Incas, then changed sides again to get rid of the Spanish. They are survivors who have lived here for hundreds of years.
We saw a couple of interesting ladies, one weaver and one clothing saleslady who was sweetly aggressive and we bought a sweater for $12.
The GPS took us on an old highway in poor condition, but with little traffic, to return a different way through the mountains. We got to Cuenca just as the heavens opened and poured a ton of water everywhere in no time flat.
I have a couple of really good shots that just don't want to load properly tonight, darn it.
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day's excitement, Cheers, Al
