Last night, our Oilers sh*t the bed and let Dallas Stars score 5 straight goals after leading 3-1 to give us a very embarrassing way to start the series. Boo Oilers. They really need to fire defensive coach Paul Coffee...
I heard from the woodworker about that set of charcuterie boards I liked (and Cristina liked) and he said he will be at the Farmer's Market stall om 104 St again next Saturday, 10am-3pm. They will cost $95 and he accepts credit cards.
Today, I headed first to return a Jack Reacher book to the library with a plan to stop at Canada Place when I realized that I had left my fanny pack at home, with my phone, I.D, and money, and documents.... What an idiot I can be at times....
That put me an hour early to meet with a fellow named Cody at Commonwealth Stadium about seeing if my Gio would fit in stall 4 in section 00 to watch Elks football games.... The long and short answer is NO, it is too big, and stall 4 is right where a concrete abutment is, so it will have to be parked right outside the 00 enclosure. He will check if that will cause any problems (which it shouldn't, because there is a perfect area outside the walking paths) and, if not, I intend to buy that season ticket for roughly $200 a year. He will get back to me. It will be so much easier for me to run to games on the Gio rather than have to wait for the packed LRT when coming or leaving.
Once I got home, I decided to grab my fanny pack with everything and head back to Service Canada at Canada Place. On the way, some girls' team was hooting and hollering about the Gio so they posed for me... It is cool to have a fan club!! Actually, about 8 people commented on the Gio as well today,.. all positive...
I did not have to wait long. My reason for going to the Service Canada office is that yesterday I had received an OAS application for Cristina to fill out once she turns 60, although the application can be done a year early, when she is 59.......... However..... Here are the notes I have made:
I spoke to an East Indian lady at table 7. She was mystified about this application as well because they definitely have notes in the system that my wife is Colombian and that we live apart due to circumstances beyond our control… She gave me the national number to call 1-800-277-9914.
I returned home and spent 20 minutes on hold until I spoke to Katherine around 2:40pm at that number. I again explained the situation that:
1. The application could not be filled out until May7, 2027, one year before Cristina turns 60.
2. However, Cristina does NOT even qualify because:
A) She is not Canadian.
B) She has never even been to Canada.
C) She has no SIN.
Katherine said that she had made digital notes on the file and the form can safely be ignored.
I then asked Katherine about what would happen upon my demise, if Cristina would qualify for the Survivor Benefit…
Katherine stated that Cristina would indeed qualify, and the Survivor Benefit Application is available online at Service Canada.
I pointed out that Cristina is Colombian, speaks no English, and has no-one bilingual enough to likely help her in that event..
Also Katherine confirmed that Colombia is not one of the countries where Service Canada can provide direct deposit so she would need someone in Canada authorized to receive the deposits on her behalf and do bank transfers……….
So, our Government in action....... Ughhhhh
On my return I spoke to the lovely ladies responsible for the landscaping and flowers at the front of the Manoir. They have put weed-stopping fabric around all the perennials and covered that in decorative red rock, finishing that today... Then the annuals will be put out in pots, which sound OK until a few simply get picked up by passers-by, I suppose....
Work continues in the common area, and I confirmed that it is vinyl tile being installed, not ceramic tile. I sure hope they do something to brighten up that dull grey colour....
I hope you enjoy the pictures. That was the day’s excitement.
