Happy sweet 16th Birthday to my amazing granddaughter Danai!
Yesterday afternoon we visited San Blas to see an artisan
exposition and to specifically see Julian Cando Cotacachi. I bought a light, but warm, pocho made of
alpaca for $20 and got many admiring looks as I wore it around El Centro. Julian is normally at the 4th or 5th
tent on the right side sidewalk at San Francisco square and I have bought many
items from him over the years. He speaks
a little English which makes things easier too.
Last night we attended an information meeting for an upcoming trip
to the jungle at Sucua in 2 weeks. I was
shocked that Cristina was definitely the youngest there, but flabbergasted that
I seemed to be the second youngest…
Please, we could use a few younger people on this jaunt, there were 8
spots open as of last night. Contact
Brian or Jimmy right away:
Today I had nothing planned other than to exchange some books at
Caroline Bookstore. Cristina came along
so we stopped for a delicious $2.50 almuerzo at the (Colombian) Moliendo Café
first. Lee Dubs was manning the bookstore
himself and he said that his wife Carol was improving daily. It is always good news to hear someone successfully battling back those vicious diseases.
From there we checked out a few shops along Calle Larga towards
Todos Santos. A week ago I wore a
knitted sweater to Joes’ Secret Garden and had at least 3 offers to buy it… Well the store that sold it to me is across
from the church, called Artesanias San Miguel, Calle Larga 5-08 and Mariano
Cueva. She had many wonderful knit items
on display today as well.
We doubled back to the Escalinata and checked out a lot of the
handmade jewelry and sundries for sale on the steps. At the bottom we turned right to check out
the CIDAP Museum but were shocked to find it closed…
Oh well, we continued on the Parque De La Madre because we could
see a lot of white tents there. However,
on closer inspection, all the tents were empty, in the process of being
erected. Apparently there will be an
artisans show there this evening and tomorrow only.
I had read a while back that some chainsaw artists were allowed to
make artworks out of dead trees in the park.
Well, several were on display today, while many others were still
covered up.
We caught the #15 home in time to take the girls out to water the
grass.
I hope you enjoy the photos. That was the day's
excitement, Cheers,
Al
