Today I am a happy camper, finally receiving the new 9-1 Visa transfer to my new passport after 6 visits. I cannot fault the lovely ladies in the Cuenca office for the delays because those happened due to incompetence out of Quito. It is such a great feeling to have your papers in order in a strange land.
Then for the sixth time, I asked for the process to begin to change my marital status on my identity card, the Cedula. I emphasized that this was my sixth request, which they had refused to begin until they had my new Visa installed in my new passport. They actually bent the rules and snuck me a late-day appointment on the next office and I supplied the required application, original and copies of the Divorce decree, and copy of my new passport and Visa. The one fellow began to make noises about getting the divorce decree translated (then probably needing to be notarized..) and I was having none of that. I flipped over the document to show him that it had already been approved by the Ecuadorian Consulate in Burnaby. Grudgingly he accepted this and the paperwork will be off to Quito and the new Cedula should be available in 3-4 business days. I intend to give them a whole week.
Having the Cedula showing me as still married has caused problems in the past, so I will be glad to get that monkey off my back too.
Next I went to go pick my old waterproof jacket with the new reflective tapes sewn on and, of course, it was not ready. They said the tailor had been sick and had honestly forgotten to do it on time. Win one, lose one.....
That was the day's excitement, Cheers, Al
