Tonight was an ambitious fundraiser put on by the Friends Of Messengers Of Peace and Diane Lenz Shanley to raise $25,000 for a Yunguilla Orphanage. It was a very high-brow event held at the Oro Verde Hotel.
There was quite a bottleneck getting into the event but they had a lot of volunteers to make the rest of the evening go smoothly.
They had 10 raffle prize groupings, your choice to put your name in the bowl, at $100 a ticket. They also had a small silent auction, plus a lively live auction, including a painting they valued at $20,000.
I was amazed that they could get 400 people for such a big ticket event and reach such a lofty goal, but I believe that they pulled it off. Hats off to the gringo community for their generous support.
The supper was a very good lasagna and that was followed by Brian Gary and his band Rubber Biscuit.
I knew most of the people in the room and was at a table with the Hearts Of Gold crew, 9 lovely ladies and myself. It is a tough job but somebody has to do it.
