I had a pleasant surprise at my door this afternoon as my old wallyball-playing buddy, and my former accountant, Tony, showed up, finally deciding to join Bob and I for wings...
We took his 2017 Toyota 4-Runner (with only 13,000 kms on it because he never goes anywhere) for the extra space. We picked up Bob and his walker and went to our new haunt, On the Rocks, for my favourite lemon-pepper wings and a beer.
Now Bob and I go to the Commercial Hotel often, and a couple of our favourite musicians are occasionally there. They advertised on Facebook that their major band, (they do play with others too) North Of 49, was headlining a summer concert series this evening at Heritage Park in Stony Plain. Bob and Tony were game to do something different, so we went to watch Metis musicians Darla Daniels (fiddle) and Matt Patenaude (bass), her cousin, play with the band. They only played an hour but a fine crowd of around 500, and ourselves, really enjoyed the show. A purist might have wanted many more speakers sprinklered around, but it only mattered that we could hear it, sing along, and dance. What a nice way to spend a weekday summer evening!
They have other artists every week for the summer, ending with George Canyon in August. I imagine the crowds will grow quickly.
So both of the boys thanked me profusely for the "different" outing and for the fun we all had...
When I got home, I got roped into playing a couple of hands of cribbage. The cards were mediocre at best tonight, no big, big hands...
